Dash Lights On...ABS, TRAC, Service Engine ETC...
Another issue with this Alero. All the dash lights are on stating multiple problems however I have heard this is a normal occourance with Alero's when they reach approximately 100,000 miles. Does this have anything to do with reflashing the computer? It is more annoying than anything else. Someone on Ebay had flashed computers for sale and if this will clear this issue, I may purchase one or have this one reflashed.

Re: Dash Lights On...ABS, TRAC, Service Engine ETC...
ABS/Trac can be caused by low brake fluid. They are also caused by corrosion in the connectors at the hubs, bad wheels speed sensors (in the hubs), or broken wiring between the hubs and computer (check the front wheels first, anywhere the wiring moves when the wheels turn).
What lights do you have on, and have you had it scanned? |

Re: Dash Lights On...ABS, TRAC, Service Engine ETC...
Almost all of the lights are on. I have read elsewhere online that this occurs when Alero's reach around 100,000 miles. I forewarned my wife to expect it and it sure did happen. I recently changed the rotors and the wires (sensors) looked good. From what I understand, these cars have had their share of issues. I will take a further look as soon as it warms up here a bit. I will start by checking the brake fluid level although I am sure it is fine. I have been known to be wrong though. She has it at work now so I will look at it tomorrow. Thanks again for the assistance. I guess if it is one issue at a time than that's how I'll have to handle it. So far this forum has been the biggest help.

Re: Dash Lights On...ABS, TRAC, Service Engine ETC...
Some thing or things have caused these lights to come on. I've never heard of them coming on for no reason or simply because your car has reached 100,000 miles. A reliable shop or dealer can scan the computer for stored trouble codes and help narrow down the problem(s). Be sure the scanner used is ABS capable (able to detect ABS codes)
It's also pretty likely that if your ABS light is on, your car's ABS function has been "disabled" by the computer, meaning that the ABS system simply won't work during emergency braking. The brakes will still work, just without the ABS functionality. I don't know about you, but if it were my wife's car, I would want the ABS function to work. |

Re: Dash Lights On...ABS, TRAC, Service Engine ETC...
I tend to agree with you more than the other things I have read. I will look into these things. I did a scan on the car before and it said there was an evaporative system leak. That is all I came up with but I will have someone else scan it for issues. I would like to see the car with no lights on. We plan to give it to our Daughter soon. Thank you once again....it is going to be in the 50's this weekend here so I will take a look at things.

Re: Dash Lights On...ABS, TRAC, Service Engine ETC...
What brand scanner was used and what was it's capabilities? In order to pull ABS/traction control system DTCs you need an ABS capable scan tool like a GM Tech II or high end Snap-On, etc.

Re: Dash Lights On...ABS, TRAC, Service Engine ETC...
The scanner I have is orange...I think it is an enhanced obd2 scanner. I got it not too long ago and haven't paid too much attention to it. It isn't the cheapest one available. I wish I knew more.
