Thinking of buying a Tiburon

As it say, I'm thinking of buying a tib. I'm an ex mechanic and I have no experience with the Tiburon. I test drove a 2006 special/limited edition. It was all leather with the preium sound system and it was a v-6 5 speed. This one was a little out of my price range, but I really like the power and handing of the tib. I wondering if there are any common issues with the 2003-2006 tibs. I only want a v-6 and I would like the 6speed. I saw a couple with gauges above the stereo, what model is that?I know the tib has a strong following, so I know they're quality, but I want to know what to look for before buying. Ohhh, and please do not tell anyone in the jeep forum I'm selling my Wrangler.

Re: Thinking of buying a Tiburon

I know it's late...but here's my experience, I have the 04 GT Limited Auto, but from what I have learned that the manual trannies tend to blow at around 60'000 miles or so. Other than that, I have had 2 problems total. My trunk switch to open the truck, and a shift cable grinding on my O2 sensor. Both were fixed by the Hyundai warrenty, no questions asked. I highly recommend a Tibby to anyonw and I personally will never drive anything else...hope this helps!!!

Re: Thinking of buying a Tiburon

To answer your other questions (if you're still looking/considering) the model with the extra gauges is the SE, which is also the only one that comes with the 6-speed starting with 2005. If the Limited was too pricey though, then the SE will be too since they're pretty close in price. From all I've heard though you won't really notice any difference between the 5-speed and the 6.

I've never heard of any Hyundai tranny "blowing" at 60k miles. Unless you're beating it up all the time you shouldn't have any problems. I have over 80k on my Elantra, and so far over 23k on the Tib with only very minor problems.
