Rodeo wont start.

Hey, I've spent about an hour reading threads to see if i could get my answer without posting. i give up.

my problem... i tried to start the car this morning and it wouldnt start. when i turned the key i could hear the fuel pump, but i just got a single click from the ignition. the security system light thing is flashing, so i dont know if it is the anti theft or what. i read a post where someone ran out of gas and then the car wouldnt start, one of their suggestions was to disconnect the battery for 30 minutes to reset the ecu. i disconnected my battery because at this point ill try anything. i did that about 10 minutes ago, so i guess ill see. does anybody else have any other ideas? i really appreciate it. i just bought this car yesterday, and being that its new years day, the dealership isnt open... no where is really open. thanks.

What year? Miles? 4X4 or 2 wheel drive? It sounds like the starter quit. Make sure all of your connections are clean. Did you get it to start at all?

Bad starter. A jump start might get you going temporarily but the starter solenoid contacts have gone bad.

yes it does sound like the starting system, so first check all the connections and wires to and from the starter, as well as the battery connections (not to mention the condition of the battery).

and then look to a good independent parts store for a quality rebuilt (remanufactured) starter. i would suggest remanufactured by bosch for quality and value (not cheapo, but less by far than the dealer).

good luck

btw, disconnecting power to the computer, either by removing the fuse or disconnecting the battery for 10 seconds is all that is necessary to reset.

Re: Rodeo wont start.

Mine did the same thing, but I got 2 clicks. Id left the headlight on for 2 days and all it took was a jump start. After a jump start and running for while everything was fine. Andie

Re: Rodeo wont start.
