87 pioneer

I have an 87 jeep cherokee pioneer that drifts a lot when you drive it and there is some slack in the steering. Also when you turn sharply the wheel doesnt turn back it just keeps turning. I replaced the steering stabilizer but that was'nt it any ideas.

I agree, but keep an eye out for other problems, as you describe three seperate possibly unrelated problems.

The lack of self - centering may be insufficient caster adjustment...... or it may be stiff, poorly lubricated ball joints.

The slack in the steering may be a worn steering box (they can be adjusted) and/or a worn drag link or tie rod end.

The drifting could be related to these problems or seperate issues. Check out all front end components for wear.

My wife's 87 pioneer did he same thing. Magic rat has the right ideas. we replaced the track bar, the ball joints and then gave it an alignment. It is much better now.
