Since I bought my 1998 malibu , I experienced all different problems posted here.First , I tried to fix them all whenever they came up.Finally ; I quit.now I am driving a TOYOTA and i'm not worried about all these stupid malfunctions.If GM doesn't give a damn to what is happening to us , why should we.This Malibu was my first and last American (paticularly GM made) car.great experince but I had to pay through the nose for it.Shame on GM managers and NERD ENGINEERS.

You think you're getting away from problems by buying a Toyota? They have their own fair share of problems and recallls recently. Seems as the company got bigger, so did the problems. Looks like they'll soon be known like GM for their "issues" and recalls.

How dare you insult "NERD ENGINEERS"! If one wants to say GM has a problem with engineering, it's because of a LACK of nerds. Have you ever seen how much better the elementary education system is in Japan? I can't even imagine how much better the post-secondary education system is! Everything designed in America is so crude. Nothing is optimized. We have backwater rednecks who overbuild and underdesign. In Japan, natural resources are a lot more scarce, and efficiency is more important. They understand a certain classical esthetic, the beauty of a perfectly designed component. They still have their bean counters, but they too are better than ours. Asian-owned plants in the U.S. are far more efficient than American plants in the U.S.

Plus, GM got screwed with the United Auto Workers. When you buy a GM, you're paying pensions for many people who aren't working. Most foreign car makers kept unions in check, and they don't pay them too much.

Toyota's quality has declined. Personally, I think they understand how inflexible public opinion is about a large corporation. Once you lay down a repuation, it's hard to lose it, good or bad. Toyota established themselves when GM didn't react to the two oil crises. Nobody seems to care that GM has gotten better and Toyota has gotten worse in the last few years.

It may be called a import but many of them are made in the USA.
Tennessee and ST. Louis Mo. and other us states have big Toyota plants.

Also a lot of the big 3 stuff is half import and half American made with a big movement for parts south of the border.

Yeah thiers a Subaru , and a Toyota plant in Indiana.
I think even Honda is building one here too.

Since they've shut down about half the GM plants here,
several people I knew from GM went to the foreign companies to keep working and bringing home the bacon.

I dont blame any car company any more then the next for bad design or problematic automobiles.
IMO It's just as much the employees fault, not being properly trained , and just not giving a shit about thier work and doing a shabby job.

Its definitely not as simple as being the employees fault. Its complicated enough that there is blame at all levels - from the custodians at the plant to the CEOs.
And: At the Honda plant that is opening in southern Indiana, Honda specified that you had to live in one of the several counties surrounding the plant location in order to have your application considered. This 'just happened' to exclude most of the folks who formerly worked at the GM plants that had closed in north central Indiana. (I dont know how they checked to see if you really lived at the address in your application however).
Those former-GM employees had wages in the $22-$27 hourly range. The 'touch labor' applicants at the Honda plant were being offered wages well below $20 per hour, and with lesser health and retirement benefits. In 2 weeks Honda had over 10,000 applications for about 2000 vacant positions.

Oh yeah I forgot about Honda saying that. I think they are also being sued over "discrimination" on where you live, that was pretty ridiculous of them. I also knew they werent paying to much.
The Subaru plant does pay better, I almost took a job thier several years ago for over $20 an hour, I turned it down(thankgod). Doing way better on my own.

If my vehicles were invincible I wouldn't need this forum. no vehicle is free of problems. this is a matter of national pride USA!USA!USA!or should i say mexico!
