Squeaky Taurus

2002 Taurus, 12 valve V6 engine, 93,000 miles.

There is a loud high pitched squeak when the car is running. It's loudest when the engine is at idle, it also squeaks constantly when at idle. The higher the rpm, the faster the squeak. It also tends to get quieter as the rpm go higher. At about 1500 rpm you can hardly hear it. This is all with the hood open.

The squeak is not coming from any of the pulleys or moving parts on that side of the engine. It seems to be coming from the other side of the engine, specifically where the radiator hose is connected to the water neck, or somewhere very close to that area. I took the oil filler cap off and it doesn't seem to be coming from under the valve cover.

Can anyone offer any clues to what might be squeaking? and how it might be fixed?

Thanks.

Re: Squeaky Taurus

Investigate the Camshaft Positioning sensor drive. (CPS) Is located at where you describe the noise. Is information available here and on www.tauruscarclub.com
