Getting different tires
Hello everyone! It's been awhile since I've posted anything. I currently have Yokohama AVID tires, the P175/70R13s. I've been driving on them for a good six months now. I really don't like how it's changed my gear ratios, and threw off my speedometer by like 5mph going 65mph. Also, how much it raised the car, and taking off from a stop I can almost go straight into 2nd gear.
I know you all warned me about these tires, but I thought I'd try them. I think I'm going to go with the Sumitomo HTR200 tires. They have really good reviews, and from the people on here who have used them, say they're pretty good tires. Anyway from tirerack, shipped to my door I can get 4 for $191. And they're almost exactly the same circumference as the P155/80R12s I had. The size I'm getting are P185/60R13. Let me know if this is a good choice! And happy new year everyone!

Re: Getting different tires
Dan they are basicly the same diameter but you might want to do a little measuring on width since the 60 series will be wider. The back should be no problem but when turning the front may rub. That would be my only concern.

Re: Getting different tires
I used to have a Ford Festiva, I had 175/60R13 tires on it. Never had any problems with that size. Maybe I should try to get that size instead? I know those I won't have any problems with.
Anyway, let me know what you all think! ~Dan~

Re: Getting different tires
If it were I who needed tires, I'd choose the lowest rolling resistance for max. MPG, so a narrower tire, but it looks like you have wider rims than those that came from the factory...

Re: Getting different tires
Yeah. I used to have 12" stock tires and rims, but they didn't handle nearly as well as 13" tires do, due to their width, and with the rims I'm using, they're more towards the outsides of the car.

Re: Getting different tires
The diameter of the 185mm wide tire is very very close to stock, a tad less than 1/32" difference so in terms of diameter you're good. Lock the wheels both ways and see if it looks like theres an additional 5mm of clearance. How wide are your wheels? Getting too wide on your section width for a given wheel width can ruin handling characteristics.

Re: Getting different tires
The width of my rims is 5.5. I'm getting Sumitomo HTR200 tires, which have an ideal wheel width of 5.5. Overall tire width is 7.3 inches for the Sumitomos. On the Yokohamas I have now, they have an overall tire width of 7.1. So there's a difference of .1 inch on the inside which is roughly 2.5mm. I'm pretty sure that's fine. But I'll double check just in case.

Re: Getting different tires
Have ANY of you used P185/60R13 tires on your Geos and Suzukis? How is that size? Just curious.
Also, there doesn't seem to be as many people posting and answering on the forum lately for Geos. Guess everyone's busy this time of year, before taxes. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!
