Trans computer change?

Does anyone know if you need to replace the transmision computer on a 1999 Jetta when you install a transmission code CLK into a Jetta that originally had a Transmission code DLZ in it? It physically fit in with no problem but does not engage gears properly. Before I go crazy I just need to know if a different trans computer is also needed.
