Brake light problem

I have a 91 BMW 318is and the brake lights are always on. I checked the switch under the pedal and its not stuck and seems to be functioning. I need to know what the problem might be?? and if I can fix it myself as I really do not have much money to take it to the dealer or a shop.
Thanks for any help

Re: Brake light problem

its better if you go to dealer or workshop. if you don't want to go for this . check your electric cables and the bulb of the light.it may be that the bulb is fused.

Re: Brake light problem

Did you check electric cables? if yes then do not take any chance just go to the nearest garage or workshop

Re: Brake light problem

You could have a bad brake light switch. Its located on the brake pedal arm under the dash it can be hard to replace depending on the car I would take it to the shop it could also be an electrical problem and those are hard to diagnose sometimes. Good Luck
