Fujimi ford GT40
A small question about the fujimi gt40's. I want to build one and I know a shop who has 8 different versions of the car but I don't know wich one to choose. What are the best kits from fujimi, or are they all about the same quality. And how good is that quality. I don't expect a modernday Tamiya quality,but I don't want to spent hours and hours work with putty. Do the kits need a lot of extra work, do they have fitting problems,.. I've heard rumors about the plastic quality of old kits, that they have a bad reaction against laquers... I don't look for the most realistic version, I don't care if the steering wheel is an inch to small or such minor details. The most important thing for me is how good the body looks and how easy the model builds.
The more info you can give me about a specific kit, the better. and what about the studio27 photo-etched spreu, is it worth ot? thanks in advance |

I have several of these kits. They are very nice, but are curbside. They come in a couple of different versions so if you are wanting to do a particular version, you'll have to do some research to find out which one to get. The MkII's are all one piece bodies and look nice when built. The MkI's are different in the bonnet area and have a detached rear end. You can buy a transkit for the MkI to put an engine in it. There are several decals out there. I think the hardest part of the kit is putting all the rivets on the seat. There will inevitable be some sink marks and such to fill but that is normal. I can't readily comment on the S27 PE.

I have one of the Fujimi Ford GT40's the 1968 'Le mans' version in the Gulf colours and it also has the inclusion of Cartograf decals.
![]() It was one of the first Fujimi kits that I bought and I wasn't expecting much to be honest,but I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box.A well molded,crisp body shell that was in two parts but the fit was perfect.Generally very nicely detailed and crisp parts feature throughout the whole model.Excellent glass parts and very nice wheels and tyres and decals.Now I haven't built it yet so I can't comment on how it goes together but I think it shouldn't present any problems.The Studio 27 etched set is also a worthwhile investment for the grilles etc.Here's a few photo's of the kit and the etch set to help you decide.Hope they help. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

those pictures are great!
i definatly want one with this body. The MK2 version has a much "higher" rear with big airaintakes above the rearwheels and doesn't look so good (in my humble opinion). I believe the MK1 and the 67-68 version have about the same body. But the '68 does look verry good. Has anybody build the '68 version and is the fitment of the parts any good? |

I have the '66 with S27. Not built, but dry fitted a few parts. It seems awesome to me. The body is all one piece, very well molded, though the plastic is very thick, hopefully will not be an issue. I can't wait to build it, it's a killer looking curbside imho. They all are. Should go together pretty easily, so I say get 'em all!

I have built both the '66 winner MKII and '69 winner MKI and both share many of the same parts, the main difference being the body. They are fairly simple curbsides but have enough detail to be a very convincing when complete. I had no fit problems that I can recall but would recommend getting the versions with the Cartograf decals if available as the stock Fujimi decals are fairly translucent (at least in my '69 version). The MKII does have a photo-etch sheet for the rear screen, hood pins and some other small bits. Revell also released a reboxed version of the MKII kit.

Dad got me one of those for christmas!
I was thinking about it right now! I have the Mk. I version,just checked it...I want so much to cut those doors! Really,the doorpanels look like they were designed to be on an opening door! The only worry would be the hinges...Minor work... But I want to finish it quickly,so I won't be cutting them yet! So I think i'll wait 'till I get my mk. II,because those looked awesome... Since I'll be using acrylics on it,I don't have to worry about lacquer problems on the body... Body is super sharp,with some awesome details! I think it's a worth buy!

I too prefer the styling of the Mk. I's vs. the Mk. II's. I've built both the '68 and '69 LeMans winners, had no basic problems with the models aside from a desire to paint the orange stripes vs. use kit decals on the '69 and having a few decal issues on the '68 from my heavy clearcoat over them too soon after they were applied. They look great finished, and are not difficult to assemble. They're not 100% accurate, the rear wheels aren't wide enough, but the finished models don't seem to suffer much from a few details like that, they look very nice. The HRM detail kit would be a nice way to finish the model if you want full detail.
Cheap/fast/easy way to do the seat rivets: get a silver Verithin pencil, keep it sharp, and you'll have them done in 10 minutes! You want to paint the top of the door panel body color (it's called out in the instructions, and if you are brave you might want to add a bit of sheet plastic as an upright as the window ledge area wraps around the visible glass inside and it's all body color. Most builders seem to make the interior all black, and miss the body color portion that has a lot of visual depth behind the side glass. Alas I missed doing the inner body color portion on the A pillar as well; Mach I 2003 and I saw a GT40 up close last spring and both noticed that at the same time That would be a more difficult piece to add and wouldn't be very noticeable.Mach I 2003 has built several GT40's, and now has my '69 LeMans winner. The Fujimi GT40 kits are excellent. Just buy the version you are most interested in and you can't go wrong. If you want to go nuts modifying and detailing, then the Mk I is better catered for than the Mk II by the aftermarket.
As I said, superb kits, there is so much you can do with them. I want to build another with open doors some day. ![]() ![]()
