Question 99 300M automatic gear shift

I have a 99 300M. Tonight the car was running great. I pulled into the driveway and put it into park. All seemed great. When I went to put it back into drive the gear shift was real loose and I could actually turn it. It Was rough getting back into park. What could have happened? Is it hard to have fixed?

Either the shifter cable has broken, which they do, or somehow the shifter has gotten loose/broken under the console where it attaches. Possible the center pin holding the shifter has broken. You have to remove the console, which is not too hard to do, and check out the area where the shifter is attached to the pivot point. It has to be one or the other.
