Blown turbo rebuild....Piston order help.....
Just pulled the pistons out of the eclipse and put them in order on the ground in some plastic. Due to some heavy rain, I had some flooding and had to move the pistons/rods off onto a table...
After I placed the piston/rods on the table realized that they were no longer in order. So, I found some numbers in back of the pistons that might correspond to something.... Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Blown turbo rebuild....Piston order help.....
I think thats just how much each unit weighs. The weight is important to know when ballancing the rotating assembly, if I'm not mistaken.

Re: Blown turbo rebuild....Piston order help.....
How long have they been in the car? I know that when building a motor the cylinders are bored and rings are gapped specifically for each cylinder and piston, Just guess I suppse.

Re: Blown turbo rebuild....Piston order help.....
I think that motor didn't even have 1,000 miles on it....if I remember correctly. IMO, on a motor that fresh, I don't see where it would matter which one goes where. I think if you re-ring it and use new bearings when you put it back together that it wouldn't really matter. But what do I know?

Re: Blown turbo rebuild....Piston order help.....
I hope you didn't mix up the rod caps with the rods. Each rod/cap is specific to one-another and CANNOT be interchanged. If you didn't mix them up, then you should be able to look at the bottom of the caps and see what piston/rod goes where because any half-assed engine builder will number the rod caps as to where the go in the engine. Otherwise, you're fucked if you mixed up the rod caps.
If you're just wondering about putting the pistons in each cylinder, it doesn't matter, but you'll have to get it re-balanced just to make sure you didn't mess them up. |
