How do i pull trouble codes for '95 cavalier?

Hi all, I'm new to the forum.

My Equus 3100 OBD-II scan tool cannot pull codes for my '95 Cavalier 2.2L. I know this was the "transition" year - having the newer OBD-II style 16-pin connector, yet is not OBD-II compliant. How (and with what) do i retrieve the trouble codes????????

I am getting only intermittent "Check Engine" lights once car is warmed - and always only for a few moments at a time. Problem is the damn thing is running very rich - fouling the plugs with fuffy carbon after a few hours of driving, to the point where it hesitating badly under load, and of course my fuel economy is gone to hell.

It has new plugs (NGK Platinum TR55GP) and plug wires, new O2 sensor, new air filter. Any help would be appreciated.

You have to get it read by an OBD-I tool.... not many places have em except where your going to have to pay to have em read

Your going to have to find a parts store like Advance that has a code reader that reads both OBD1& OBD2. Thats what I had to do!. I had to call a bunch of them before I found one that had a code reader that read the codes on my 95.

Well I always thought that you could just jump your little connector piece,(located usually under your dash on the drivers side), and then your check engine light would blink in a special sequence that will tell you what error code it has stored? I learned about that in a haynes automotive book I think. If I remember correctly they even have the sequences and the corresponding code. That would be much cheaper than taking it to a garage.
