2003 won't start code p0442

My daughter has a 2003 grand am. The engine turns over ok. With key on I pressed the valve on the fuel rail with no gas coming. I put my relay and fuses on it and it acts same. I know it not the relays or fuses.
I got a code reader and it had a code p0442 evap emission control system leak (small). Would this cause the fuel pump or the system to shut down.

Probly not a small leak.

Did she recently get gas ?
Sometimes a loose cap will cause this code.
Thoough if it's not that, then thiers several components down by the tank and under the hood that would also cause a small leak. Can be hard to track down without the right equipment.

Clear the code and see if it comes back.

Also check that it's getting spark, and verify that the fuel pump is not working.
If its not working then that possibly could be the culprit for the no start.

We found the probleme problem it was the passlock system. I got another tip that turn the key on if the security light blinks leave the key on for 15 min to 20 min. My daughter did that and it started right up.

I was going to suggest the passlock but I didnt want to scare you. If this continues to happen I suggest you try the full relearn procedure, as posted below.

Security relearn procedure:

1) Attempt to start the car by turning the key to the Start/Run Position.
2) Observe that the vehicle fails to start and that the security light is illuminated.
3) Release key to the 'ON/Accessory' Position. (DO NOT turn key to the 'off' position.)
4) Allow the vehicle to sit with the key in the 'ON/Accessory' Position for no less than 11 minutes.
5) Turn key to off position and allow the vehicle to remain in the 'OFF' position for no less than 30 seconds.
6) Repeat #1 - #5 for 3 cycles.
7) On 4th attempt, car should start.

NOTE : Since this is a fairly long procedure, I would limit all electrical sources, such as disconnecting headlights, to prevent discharge of battery.

NOTE 2 : It is SAFE to wait LONGER than the allotted time, but it is not safe to wait less time. I.e. 12 minutes instead of 11 minutes should be safe; however, waiting 10 minutes instead of 11 minutes is not safe.

Properly executed, this procedure should take approximately 35 minutes to complete

Another tip, If your daughter has a bunch of stuff hanging from her key chain, you might suggest she loose a few things.
As the weight of these items can cause the passlock to get tripped, thier are GM trouble shooting bulletins(TSB's) reffering to this.

My wife used to drive our GA SE and every other time she went somewhere the security light would flash or just stay lit with a no start, she new the relearn it was just a hassle. We dropped a bunch off the key chain and it's never had another issue since.
