Don't Text and Drive

http://www.boston.com/news/local/bre...xting_whi.html

The driver here would be hard pressed to exhibit more acts of stupidity in such a short period of time.

Driving without a license. Texting while driving. He thought he hit a mailbox - didn't bother to get out and look, leave a note for the mailboxes owners... Turns out he hit and killed a kid. Hit and run.

He got out on $5000 bail, despite driving without a license, and committing a fatal hit and run.

I actually have no idea why it's not illegal to text while driving in more states, common sense dictates you shouldn't - but there are a lot of people out there with no common sense apparently.n

Re: Don't Text and Drive

that's fucking stupid. the only time i've texted while at the wheel of a car is while waiting at a stoplight and it was to say "driving, talk later" or something of the sort.
he probably got off on $5,000 bail because he turned himself in

Re: Don't Text and Drive

Talking on the phone - even hands free - should be illegal. Its not the fact that its occupying your hands, it's that it's occupying your mind, and since most people in this country don't have much of that to spare it makes for a dangerous situation.

Re: Don't Text and Drive

They recently passed a law in NY against texting while driving. One of the incidents that led up to the passing of the legislation was an off duty police officer drunk behind the wheel of his car was texting while driving downtown. He turned a corner and hit two women , killing one of them.

Re: Don't Text and Drive

Pass all the laws you want; people will do it anyway. It's been illegal to use a cell phone without a hands free device while driving in NY state for a couple of years now, but everybody still does it. Some people are just assholes; they don't give a crap how their actions affect others, as long as they can do what they want. Now, if more of them would end up dying in the ditch without hurting anyone else, I'd say that "karma's a bitch", and keep right on going.

Too bad we can't bring back the stocks and the pillories in the public square for stuff like this. I'd pay to watch that..................

Well it should have the same penalties when caught as DUI.
