the button and push rod on my e-brake handle slid out the other day.
is there a trick to fixing it? or could a spring or clip in the handle be broke? like to avoid replacing it. 93 xj sport. thanks |

Yup...that happened to mine years ago. I fixed it by drilling a small hole in the push button where it threads in to the rod. Then I "superglued" a cut off finish nail in the hole so it will be retained in a position to contact the threads of the rod. It has lasted about 7 years now.
But first you have to reassemble the mechanism. To do this, you might have to loosen the E-brake cable. Then re-adjusted it when you are done with the repair. |

Re: it broke!!
no. the catch doesn't have any spring to it. it doesn't go into the lock position on its own

Re: it broke!!
Do you still have the long spring? It goes in the handle and then the button keeps it in place (after you have reset the flipper thing which ratchets).
Here is a sketch: |
