starter/flywheel issues
Hey guys, I have an '86 K5 that has had a muncie 465 and a 350ci swapped in. I'm having problems with the starter/flywheel. I went to the local parts store and picked up a starter for an 86 blazer with a manual and it doesnt seem like its the right one. I have shimmed this in all possible combinations and its still not right. when i get under the truck and watch while someone else cranks, it looks like the pinion gear is engaging all the way, but its not meshing with the flywheel. Then, i turn the flywheel by hand a bit and then it grabs but its too close. I didnt do the swap so im not sure what the tooth count is on the flywheel. Any suggestions? I'm desperate........thanks

Re: starter/flywheel issues
you have the wrong starter then
you do not need shims if you had the right starter nose 12.5" wheel = straight across starter nose bolts 14" = staggered bolts get the opposite one you should have 1/8" gap between the outer edge of the flywheel, and the shaft that the starter drive gear rides on if not then get the right starter nose on it
