1997 PA Comp Swap, Lights but no turn over. Accident

I have a icouple lights on my dashboard that intermittently on (most of the time, once in a greaaat while off). I had the chance to sawp out the computer (from inside the airbox) they have the same serial #'s and HDW #'s.

I turn the key and all the dash lights come on like they should and I turn the key to bit more for starting and there is nothing. Is there something about changing computers that I don't know. Both cars are 97 models, identical cars with the exception that ours has leather seats.

ALSO!.... I could share a few photos of how a 1997 PA handled going end for end 3+ times. Any interest in this? It is interesting to see, a lesser vehicle would not have faired as well.

Thanks!

Please give more details, this description is not sufficient to give proper guidance.

What is the security light doing when trying to start?

Re: 1997 PA Comp Swap, Lights but no turn over. Accident

The ABS and Traction Control lights are on most of the time. I had a short at one time in the wiring harness at the bottom of the drivers side corner of the radiator. A contact terminal rubbed through the harness. That has been fixed but I have these lights on most of the time now. Once in a while they go off.

I will have to look at the security light.. I think I saw driver unkown on the dash display when I initially turn the key with the new computer.

Re: 1997 PA Comp Swap, Lights but no turn over. Accident

Some help with the computer issue would be of great help. The new computer that I am trying worked fine in the PA it came from.

How do I insert pictures here of the PA that flipped 3 times and landed right side up make it in here alright. All 4 doors open perfectly fine. This car went through a LOT. As did the driver, my mother. In time she will be fine. Only injuries were to her lower back/spine, she is healing and is VERY lucky not to be paralyzed or killed in this ordeal.

The botton I see for inserting images asks for a "url" location. I want to upload from my pc, can I do this?

Thanks

No, you will need to use a hosting site such as PhotoBucket or ImageShack.
BTW, I am still confused as to why you changed the PCM, was it because of the ABS & TC lights coming on intermittently? If so, reinstall the original PCM and have the car scanned with an ABS capable scanner.

Re: 1997 PA Comp Swap, Lights but no turn over. Accident

Yes, the lights issue is a pain and I don't want to spend more $$ having the scan. With the short stated above causing the problem and that being corrected the dash light thing is something that I figure must have been triggered by the short so I want to try this computer.

All the numbers match on each computer so why won't the starter engage with the 2nd computer in place. What do I need to tweak here.

Thanks!

More than likely, your PassKey system is locked in antitheft mode! Whenever you change a PCM from one car to another, there is a 30-minute PCM/BCM programming procedure, that does not require a scan tool.

1.Turn the ignition switch to START, then release it to the ON position (the engine will not start).
2. The “Security” light should be ON. After 10 minutes, it should turn OFF.
3.Turn the ignition switch OFF and after five seconds, repeat steps 1 and 2.

When this procedure has been completed three times, turn the ignition switch OFF. The control units will exchange the correct commands during the next start-up attempt. If programming is not completed correctly, there will be no theft protection, or the system will lock in antitheft mode and the engine won’t start. Try the programming procedure again.

Remember, this will not reprogram key recognition, only the information transmitted on the Class 2 data link.

1997 traction, ABS lights, Accident Pics

Switching out the PCM did not affect the traction and ABS dash lights, they are still intermittent... most of the time they stay on. I swapped relays for the ABS and that did not do anything to change it. Any ideas on where to look? Also, where is a relay or similiar for the transmission kickdown (when accelerating ...the tranny downshifts) When pressing the pedal down she does not downshift.

Here are links to the pics of the 1997 PA I referred to in an earlier post.
She luanched off an approach at 60+mph and went end for end 3 times and landed right side up. She took a heck of a tumble. All 4 doors still open perfectly. The engine and tranny... the mounts all broke on the drivers side and everything was pushed down and back toward the drivers side. The amazing thing is she still starts and runs perfectly!
The car was a beautiful car prior to this accident, looked and drove like brand new. Now a parts car! (the truck lid is being held down by the 2 pieces of wood in the one pic)

The transmission is PCM controlled, so if the PCM is exhibiting other problems, it may be time to reflash the ROM or find another IDENTICAL unit to exchange.
