hit brakes-engine dies

ok i have an 86 firebird with a 2.8L and everytime i hit the brakes the engine chokes out. I have checked the electrical systems and i have found nothing. A buddy of mine says it might be a vacuum leak but we have both looked over it and have found no vacuum leaks. what does everyone else think??

Re: hit brakes engine cuts out

What car do you have? What mileage? More specifics please - do all of the lights come on? Is this at idle or when moving? Are there any other symptoms? Please give us more information.

Re: hit brakes engine cuts out

its an 86 firebird with a 2.8L MFI engine and km's are 175k doesnt run rough happens anytime i hit the brakes @ higher RPM i can get it to keep going. I thought it was an electrical problem but i have been over the systems twice now and still nothing. One of my buddy's said it might be a vacuum leak but we both wne over each line multiple times and the yseem to be all fine. Its still a stock engine minus cold air and shift kit but i did those a year ago so i dont think they would cause it.

That info helps a lot, thanks. As for ideas, you seem to have checked everything I would have - electrical would have been my first guess as well. I have seen a bad alternator do this as a first warning it was going but if the electical checks out and you seem to have no vacuum leaks I don't know. Sorry.

Re: hit brakes-engine dies

The check valve to the brake booster may be faulty.
