95 Cherokee..4.0..........No Start
I will start by giving you some history I have a 93 Cherokee 4.0 that I purchased wrecked, that runs very well but the frame is bent bad.
So I purchased a 95 Cherokee at a Goodwill auction cheap, they said it did not run so I was just going to swap engines. I got the 95 home last week and for the fun of it I tried to start it, fired right up and ran but the alternator pully was frozen I turned it off after about 45 seconds. I then started it up for about one minute and pulled it back and forward. The next morning I took the serpentine belt off, it is still off now, and it will not start at all. When it is cool after setting all night it seams to fire a couple of time but the longer you crank it it will not fire. Since I have a running 4.0 this is what I have done: I started throwing part at it I knew were good, neutral safety switch, crank position sensor, Map sensor and computer on the drivers fender. I can smell fuel when cranked and it has spark. Plugs are wet could it be flooded real bad? I held the pedal down and cranked to try to clear if flooded. Any help would be great Thank you Last edited by AlohaBra; 12-28-2007 at 09:27 AM. |

Is the coil providing spark?

I suppose it could be flooded. Try letting it air for a bit then don't press the pedal when you crank. You say it is getting spark so it does sound like it is flooded.

Re: 95 Cherokee..4.0..........No Start
The coil and plugs seem to give off plenty of spark
If flooded I have let it set over night and it still will not start, do I need to take out all the plugs and air it out? |

Re: 95 Cherokee..4.0..........No Start
How do you know it's flooded? When you pull a plug is it wet or dry? If it's wet then make sure that it's gas on the plug and not oil or coolant. Don't forget to check all the cylinders not just one or two. Where do you smell the gas under the hood, inside, towards the back? Also read up on here about CPS (crankshaft position sensor) as they're notorious for causing weird problems.
