Timinig setting?
I am going to adjust the timing and carb for my '79. I was wondering what anyone would recommend for the timing setting. I have a 350 stroker. Some of the specs:
9.5:1 Compression 275I/277E Duration .462I/.482E Lift Choppy Idle Power Torque Cam Dart Iron Eagle 2.02”I/1.6”E Heds Mallory Pro-Curved High Performance HEI with 50,000 Volt Coil Professional Products “Typhoon” Aluminum Dual Plane Manifold Pioneer 8" Harmonic Balancer Roller Rocker (Pro Form 1.5 Ratio) Any help would be appreciated. Have vacuum advance on distributor. Thanks Last edited by jnicholson_23; 12-27-2007 at 02:25 PM. Reason: Text Formatting |

Re: Timinig setting?
Do you have a 350 or a "stroker". One cannot be the other. For the most part, a "stroker" is a 350 with a 400 crank installed, making it a "383" (block at .030" oversize). There are others, but this is far and away, the most popular.
In any case, begin with initial timing at 8 deg. BTDC (vacuum disconnected and plugged). Bump it "up" (advance) two degrees at a time and drive it. You will find the "happy spot". If it "pings", back off. That compressoin ratio should be happy with 93 octane gas. Nothing lower. Jim |
