Question 93 blazer engine swap

i have a 1993 blazer 4x4 with a 4.3 liter vortec with cpi injection ( engine code W). my question is this..... from what year of blazer can i get an engine from? i know the 94, 95, 96 .. have an engine code W. is this the same engine ? or does only a motor from 93 fit. i am looking at buying another blazer from an auction ( an insurance auction) the vehicles from this auction are all writtin off, but still have good engines and lots of other good parts. if anyone has any information on this i would appreciate it alot. thanks.

Re: 93 blazer engine swap

Stick to 93 or 94. 1995-1997 had different pistons with very thin piston rings placed high up on the piston. The ECM and knock sensors in 95-97 were improved to help these newer pistons last longer. The ECM in your 93 will not be able to protect the pistons in a 95-97 engine.

Alternate plan. Use a 95-97 engine AND computer + wiring also from the 95-97 vehicle.

Re: 93 blazer engine swap

ok i bought a 95 blazer. now you told me that i have to take the ecm from the 95 to put in the 93. i got that, you also said that i have to take the wiring from the 95. my question is ...what wiring do you mean? in the engine compartment only? or from the ecm to the engine. i believe in my 93 the ecm is in the cab on the passenger side kick panel. thanks again
