What an adventure!

I had a wonderful christmas and I hope you all did as well. However when I left my Dads house last night my oil light came on but i still had oil presure so I just costed down the hill to a gas station and checked my oil.. and It showed NO oil on my dip stick!! WTF that is no bueno! so I run in and get a quart of oil, dump it into my car and wait a minut and check it again.. still no oil!! Oh shoot!! go back in and get a nether and dumped it in it was showed up on the very bottem of the stick!! go back in to get a third (knowing my motor is F^cked) and dump it in getting me to the middle of where I should be at! I started the car and it sounded ok but had a rattle as if I eather shrunk one of my berrings and it was rattleing (would suck..).. I decided to pull out and see what it sounds like when I am driving when I did I had no power.. it felt like I was running on a 8.1 compression motor with out boost!
so the other thing I thought was my turbo blown up and came apart leaving my wheel in the housing cling clanging around (highly possible).. as I fliped around to go back to the gas station I started smoking like you would not believe If you thought sea foam smoked man.. you have no Idea! finaly get to the gas station and turn off the car.. it smoked for a little while after the car was off.. leading me to believe my turbo failed draining the oil into my exhaust causing the smoking and causing me to loose my oil..

what do you all think? my motor could be F"ed ether way from lack of oil and I would be suprized if its not..

Jason

Re: What an adventure!

i hope this is the 91 not the GTO...

that really sucks man. I guess the easiest thing to start would be to pull the front turbo and inspect it...but i would think your gonna end up having to pull the whole thing.

would a shrunk bearing show on a compression test? i would think it would lower compression a little...but how much?

did you find where it leaked from? I would bet turbo feed line...and when you refilled it, it just dumped oil on the hot turbo, thus all the smoke.

Re: What an adventure!

Yeah the problem is it was freakin cold outside and I just left it up at some gas station for a few days till I can get back up there and tow it home.. but yeah I will just drop the downpipe and take off the intake pipes and go from there..

And yeah its my 91 do worries my red one is still down for the build! haha

Re: What an adventure!

bearings can't shrink. they're flat half circle pieces of metal that surround the crankshaft. they spin out of place when they're starved of oil. it makes a loud knocking noise when they spin... kinda sounds like a little midget inside your engine with a hammer.

Re: What an adventure!

how long/how many miles ago did you do your last oil change?

if you're burning/losing 3+ quarts of oil since your last oil change, you have a BIIIG problem. lol changes are, you've had a trail of smoke behind your car for the last few months. lol

Yeah I blow up my front turbo and the oil is being drained into my intake and exhaust its not by any means a small leak..

Ha ha no it is physicaly the same from end to end but it doesn't fit in the rod cap.. Like if you put it back on the crank you would have to stretch it over the crank.. does that make sense? haha I would do the picture here but I cant post pic's from this computer
