door ajar problem

Have 96 Taurus wagon with unusual electrical problem. When car is started door ajar light stays on along with dome light even though all doors and tailgate are closed. Stays on even when car is restarted. Will go off after half hour of driving then not recur until another day or two. Suggestions?

Re: door ajar problem

Sounds like the very common door switch issue. This has been addressed numerous times on this forum. Please use the very handy "Search this forum" feature from the Taurus forum main page to search for keyword "ajar."

Re: door ajar problem

I have had this problem periodocally with my car and truck. Sometimes the switch in the door gets stuck. I have always been able to fix it by spraying alot of WD-40 in the door latches and closing/opening them a bunch of times. Ofcourse it would help to know which door is the problem, but you may be able to fix it by just doing it to all.
