98 Passport - Alarm goes off when I open door with key
Yes, I know . . . posting on Xmas is lame. But since it happened to me today, it reminded me to post.
The Honda alarm on my Passport goes off almost every time if I have the vehicle locked and I try to open it with my key. Almost every time, of course except whenever the dealership looks at it. This is rarely an issue because I have keyless entry. But on those rare occasions where I am using a spare key (or my wife takes my keychain accidentally) I end up setting of the stupid alarm by unlocking the door with the key. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening, or any suggestions for potential fixes? Thanks . . . Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! |

Re: 98 Passport - Alarm goes off when I open door with key
Not really sure what the cause is. Does it do it if you unlock all the doors with the key (turn the key to unlock twice)? Only time mine has set off the alarm with the key is when I tried unlocking the passenger side with the key (at 1am in a campground).

Hmmmmmmm . . . not sure I've ever tried turning it twice. I'll give it a shot and see what that does. Will let you know!

Re: 98 Passport - Alarm goes off when I open door with key
I have the same issue on my '98 Rodeo on the passenger side.... I don't open the pass door with a key much, so I really haven't even investigated..... It has to be something with the lock mechanism right?

Glad to see that I am not nuts, anyway . . . and that other people are experiencing similar strange "features" with the factory alarms.

Re: 98 Passport - Alarm goes off when I open door with key
Does yours only honk once when you use the key or does it keep going?
I used the key to open my drivers side door for the first time ever this morning. It honked once.

I actually tried it at the gym the other day, and it honked once like you just experienced. But I have also had it go off and keep honking until I get the key in the ignition and turn it. It's very strange (and a pain in the butt). It's consistently inconsistent.

Re: 98 Passport - Alarm goes off when I open door with key
Every car alarm I've seen will go off unless you deactivate it with the remote. Otherwise, you could simply use a lock-out kit to deactivate any alarm out there and that sort-of defeats the purpose of having an alarm.
