Question Heater problem...

I have a '93 Sentra XE and the heat doesn't seem to be working that well. After the car gets to operating temperature, the heat blows out at a moderate temp even when I have the control all the way to hot. If I turn the fan to a higher setting, the temp gets cooler. I've also noticed the radiator cap doesn't get hot after driving around for a while and the bottom radiator hose isn't hot also. I changed the cap last year sometime and had the thermostat done about 2 years ago. Could the thermostat be stuck open or closed? The temp gauge needle goes to about 1/2 and stays there..

Any help would be appreciated, it's 12 degrees here!!!

Make sure your coolant system is full, otherwise you get almost no heat as my old B12 did. If that doesn't work, change your thermostat. Remember, your heater core can't get any hot coolant if the system is low, or you have a clogged heater core hoses.

The radiator and overflow is topped off... I'm going to change the thermostat again. I had it out last night for about 45 mins (in 19 degree temps) and when I came back, the cap was a little warm, the top hose was hot but the bottom hose was cold..??? It's sort of like something is preventing the coolant to flow out of the bottom hose... Could the heater core be shot?

Thanks for the help!!!

Either the core is shot or the coolant lines running to it are clogged.
