Problems with my new motor.

Well, like I have said, its in, and it starts, barely. Something is wrong with the timing, tdc, something. That I am pretty sure of. I have to have the cam gear adjust to almost 14 degrees advanced (#7 hash mark) for it to even start. Then, it sounds really, wrong. It just doesnt sound like it should. If I try any other setting on the cam gear, it just cranks and cranks, but doesnt fire up. What I was wondering, is does anybody know how the AEM cam gears work? There are 4 lines around the edge of the gear, and one has a little circle on it. This is what I assume is TDC right? Here is a pic:

So, that should be just a tad past tdc right?

Anybody have any ideas? I am only throwing one code, which is a water temp sensor. I highly doubt that is the problem. I just need to swap out the sensor.

when it was time to do mine it went on 3 times and got results like kris got all 3 times. stuck the stock cam gear on and got it all back tdc then stuck the aem on matching teeth to teeth.

i guess if try, try, try again doesn't work...start over is the moral of the story i learned?!?!?

Well, I put the stock cam gear on, and reset everything to tdc. That problem seems to be corrected. However, I am only firing off the #1 and #4 cylinder. 2 and 3 are doing nothing. But there is spark going through the wires...

this one was beyond me. asked jer. he *thinks* he knows. when you took it apart and "reset" it all, did you take off the dizzy and put the rotor up & check the camshaft lobes... in so many words "reset" that side of things as well? your whole engine is one big ass firing order. that part of the order might still be off

ps. i ended up answering my own question its ITR design. that little word makes all the difference...they fit, ITR does not!

Yep, I pulled the dizzy to make sure that was set right, and it is. I figured maybe the injectors were clogged/broke. So I pulled the #2 and #3 and replaced them, still the same thing. I dont have a ohm reader here, so I cannot test the injector plugs/wires. Nor do I have a compresiion tester here as well.

If the head gasket did not seal right, (no compression in those chambers) could that cause it possibly? But if so, wouldnt I have coolant in my oil, etc..

Also, what if the rings are not sealing right, would that cause this problem as well?

But the exhaust is coming out reletivly clean. But there is lots of condensation however.

if anything I would say that your rings did not seal right. You would see something if it were to be the headgasket. Is there any white smoke commin out the exhaust?
