Ferrari F360 Modena (Le Mans 2002) progress

This is my current project, it is the Ferrari 360 that raced at Le Mans in 2002. The kit is based on Tamiya's road car with a transkit by Renaissance. The transkit contains a complete one piece resin body, various other resin parts, a few small metals turned parts including exhausts and rear jack, two small sheets of photo-etch and four slick tyres as well as a sheet of decals.
One of the first things to do and possible the most daunting was to cut off the front section of the chassis and replace it with the resin front splitter provided in the transkit, some precise measuring was called for here, the new splitter was glued in place and I also added a strip of plastic for extra strength.

It was quite difficult at this stage to tell, but after some rough piecing together my fears were confirmed, as I had thought the ride height was too high, so the car had to be lowered all round, about 3mm at the front and 2mm at the rear. I thought about bending suspension arms but this made the camber angles all wrong so I actually cut the suspension arms from the chassis and then glued them back on again higher up to gain the correct ride height, more precise measurement required. Also I had to cut sections out of the dampers as well as they were now too long but this is now all glued together and the height I think is about right (fingers crossed).
The engine has all been put in place and a few wires added and also the rear jack and rear diffuser have been fitted.

Next job is the cockpit, more soon.

Steve

Looking forward to seeing this one.

I took a look at these transkits the other day, very good quality from what i saw. You can also get just the replacement front bumper.

I'm glad renaissance released a transkit for this subject, but what I really dislike are the clear acetate windows. It's hard to get them to fit since the window sills are curved.

Looking darn good so far! As a Le Mans fan, I am interested in every single project that puts this great race into perspective...

As I was in Le Mans in 2002, I took lots of pics that you can find here (look in the menu at "real cars"), and you will certainly find some pics of the 360 Modena (I don't know which version you are building but they are all there).

If you need more pics, just let me know, because I didn't post all the pics I made online and there may well be more for you...

Keep us posted!
