Red face Stoplight racing for dummies

OK I'm a newbee and don't really 'talk the language' but I like to look for opportunities to challenge someone anytime I can. My problem is when I'm lined up at the light with someone who looks like a suitable challenge what's the best way to say "OK, let's get it on!"??

I've tried blippin' the throttle but generally avoid eye contact, but when I drop the hammer they don't even try. It seems they're not in the mood, or they think my noisy diesel pickup would attract too much attention?

There's a lot of ricers around here and I went cruisin last night looking for some fun but none was to be found. I'm the first to admit I don't have a clue!

I have gotten a few bites but they're few and far between. One Acura, Nissan Maxima, & F150. . . that's it. They kept ahead of me 'til 4th gear then it was over for them. I dueled it out with an IROC Camaro once on the highway. That dude hung with me pretty well, but another time a bad looking Galant was waay back there by the time I hit 110. Like I said I'm not into the "Ricer" thing so I don't know what I'm looking at or coming up against, and I realize there's a lot of them out there that could easily clean my clock :o

Generally a nice solid rev will do the trick for me. I used to avoid eye-contact as well, always felt kind of akward or nervous if I had to look at the person. But I got over it. You'll find that you probably get more people willing to race if you at least look over at them and give them a nod or something.

Yes – acknowledging the person you want to race will more then likely make the other person more comfortable. He'll see you as a person instead of a jackass revving his engine. You will also be able to tell if the guy shakes his head to let you know he doesn’t want to go.

Maybe they're just scared?

I personally would get nervous if a Diesel started Revving on me... Cause what would provoke him to want to race? He musta done something... hahaha I dunno just my take on it.

By looking at his Sig.. he's puttin out almost as much as I am at the wheels in HP.. but double my peak torque... and his is at the wheels!

I dunno if i'd want to mess with that! hahahah.

Although I doubt he's a sub 12 second Vehicle, but Trucks can get vicous when money is thrown at them.

When i roll to the light i give a rev, then a look (maybe a little grin), When someone comes up on me with just a rev and no look i usually wont go cause i dont know what they want, so im not going to squeel and look like a moron if they are not even racing.

OR
IF you are on a long streatch with many lights, just burn the tires at the first light, then by the 2nd or 3rd they should know you want to race

Personally, I never race pickups. They're just not in the same league as the Civics and Accords and stuff. I mean, honestly. Their big V8s and all that? I mean, c'mon!! OF COURSE WERE GONNA GET OUR ASSES HANDED TO US. Then on top of that some of the trucks aroudn here decided they'd just love to own a deathbox so they slap a 100 shot ZEX or something to their already overly powerful engines and then they go around revving at little Maximas or w\e. It's just not the same thing.

Why wouldn't you race him in your civic, i think you'd give him a good run a probably win. It obviously isn't stock, but for the record, i don't think a stock focus could match a stock civic.

Who's the moron... the Redneck in the lifted truck or the guy in the Civic?

Cause I own a lifted truck... and its won a few races against a few Hondas... Im not sure what your point is?
