Turbo Build....D16Y8

ok. screw the twin cam stuff...im goin SOHC gonna build my D16Y8 for some serious boost. i'm gonna build the motor and put it in...run it for a while. put a small shot of N2O on it just to get used to driving with more power. and while i am waiting for the turbo parts. then i'm gonna slap a turbo on it. want to put 275+hp to the WHEELS. for racing.....tuned down to 6 psi for street driving. i am looking for reccomendations on internals. rods pistons sleeves cam....gonna use the stock crank. ......

Yeah, your entire exhaust will have to be replaced, and you will need to replace the fuel pump, possibly rails, and injectors.

Well, it isn't too hard to get that level of performance out of your car and it isn't going to take too much of a build to do it. I would suggest getting new forged pistons and rings, and of course a block guard. That is basically all you need to fortify the engine to survive that power level although I would recommend going ahead and getting a set of rods as well just to be safe. You can use 9.0:1 compression pistons with this set-up or stick with the stock compression ratio...not much of a difference really. I don't know about the emmissions laws where you are from so I would suggest going with the Greddy turbo kit with the large front mount intercooler. You'll need a new clutch of course and I would also suggest getting at least a set of springs and adjustible shocks. Anyone who has built a semi-powerful front wheel drive car will also suggest buying some sort of limited slip differential. I do not recommend going with the Phantom Grip lsd...get either a Kaaz or Quaiffe. I think that should about cover it.

I/H/E are not needed to go turbo and neither are any of those other mods you listed. The Greddy kit comes with a fuel system which will support his goal, but that is about the limit of the kit. Of course, getting an adjustable cam gear and pulleys will make it a little bit easier to get his goal, but still not needed.

Any exhaust he got for a naturally aspirated set-up would have to be swapped out for a bigger diameter exhaust when he went turbo unless he got a system that was far too big for a naturally aspirated set-up.

The biggest diameter exhaust you can run on the Civic's equipped with the D16 is 2.5" because 3" is too big to fit throught the opening between the rear suspension and the body. 3" exhaust will clang and probably get bent. So, if you're running 2.5" from CAT all the way back, you'll be okay.

As far as building the motor: bull crap.
Heavy mods: bull crap.
Fuel rail: Nope.
Fuel Mods: Definitely to get more than 10psi safely.

I've been running the Greddy 15G setup since late 2001 and the only problem I've had is a clogged CAT. It isn't clogged any more.

For more info on D16 mods, you might want to take a look at the turbo D16 forum: http://turbod16.no-ip.com/

Hope that helps you out with your decision making.

Maybe you didn't read his power goal SleeperCivic. If he wants to stay reliable at over 300 crank hp, he will at least need pistons. Rods and a block guard are not neccessary, but a safety procaution that most people would suggest.

No no, most turbo kits come w/ inslallation of the new fuel rails injectors etc... The only thing you need to worry about is a high flow exhaust (and catylic). W/ pushing 300hp's you can use your stock clutch (and pistons), you just have to pick your times of hammering it to save it as long as possible!! I do have info on the BEST turbo kit out there if your interested!! Im getting a stage one kit made for my Cougar that will push out 250hp"s(at the wheels) w/ a air to air intercooler! AND this kit cost $1200 less than anyone else out there!! You Honda guys will get one even cheaper than that because this company already has a stage I kit made for your car!! I know a t3/t4 Greddy kit will cost you $3200, try to beat that price!!!!!! Give them a call if your interested, ask for Carson @ 937-533-1730, or his website at itsturbo.net. You wont be dissappionted!!Tell him Nathan Brown told you to call and you will get the best sevice available!!:smoker2:

Nice sales pitch...but I don't know about the turbo kit coming with the fuel mods. Maybe a couple come with 2 extra injectors, but that's about it...

They wouldnt upgrade the fuel system for the car, they would recommend a inline fuel pump but shouldnt need it, especially under 10psi! Other vehicles like my own and Focus' and Contour SVT's that have returnless fuel systems do come w/ new fuel system that comes w/ the kit. All i know is these guys make the same kits as anyone else and get more hp than others and still charges $1000 (ave) less than anyone else. If you want to call that advertisement go ahead, i was thinking it was passing on good info to buyers out there trying to save some cash!
