problem with tailights on 93 splash

i have a 93 ranger splash. i noticed that sometimes the turn signals blink really fast. i was going to replace the flasher, but now i have noticed that when i hit the brakes the amber turn signal lights also come on. they dont blink when i hit the brakes but they do come on. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Bad taillight sockets or a bad spot in the harness

thanks for the post. i contacted the previous owner and he told me that he had an aftermarket trailor wiring harness installed about 3 years ago. he informed me that the truck has since then had this problem, but only when it was hooked to a trailor. i inspected the aftermarket harness and it has a bad connection and a bad ground. i also noticed that it was the wrong plug for the truck. i removed it and now have no more prolbems.

My 93 4X4 developed a problem too. It kept blowing the brake light fuse, which also disabled the rear ABS. The dealership found that a wire harness (somewhere above the parking brake pedal) was not routed properly from the factory and had rubber through. They found the problem and fixed it within an hour. I don't know if this a common Ranger problem or not, nut it couldn't hurt to check.
