Civic LX vs. Camaro RS

First off, I would like to start by stating that I usually get into encounters out in the streets almost daily. I win some lose some. Either way, it's cool. The reason I don't post races on here everyday is due to a few reasons. One, I am very busy. Between work and full-time college, I am so VERY swamped for time everyday. I am very detail-oriented and my racing posts usually involves a lot of those (details). No time, most of the time. Two, I drive a 1997 Civic LX SOHC non-VTEC, four-door. If I posted my losses, most everbody would probably believe me. If I posted my wins, I know at least SOME of those wins would be met with ridicule and doubt. Granted, my car is far from stock in many ways, but my d16y is NO b16. I don't have time to sit there and have to explain/defend myself from every doubter out there. I am content with the fact that I know I was able to beat certain cars that surprised even me. Because of reason one, I fear for having to spend precious time answering to some idiot who thinks his car is God's gift to motor oil...and/or Hondas have no right calling themselves cars, much less "sports" cars. You know what I mean. These people will never be convinced otherwise, so why bother.

Okay, enough of that.

Today, driving home from school, I am cruising along, mostlt going with traffic, except for having to go around the occassional vehicle who was actually following the speed limit. I'm trying to set a tone here. I'm trying to say that most of the time, I drive casual, hardly ever aggressive. One of the reasons for this is because I absolutely hate the sound of my very wide-open exhaust. I have high-flow resonator on it (2.5-inch piping--resonator's from a Camaro), but still. Unfortunately, that is one of the few true ways of giving my car some balls...I have to live with it, for now.

So, I'm cruising along, casual like, when I spot this aggressively driven 93' to '95Camaro cutting in and out of traffic on the left two lanes of this four-lane road I was on. Despite his driving "skills", I manage to pass him just by staying in one lane. To my credit, I know this road real well, and usually know what lanes are best during certain times of day. Well, the Camaro proceeds to get behind me seeing that he was being bested by a Civic. Now, my Civic is completely stock-looking outside, except for lightweight 16-inch silver rims and a lowered stance, and my Apexi N1 muffler in the back. But I guess that's enough for people to assume that I'll race them (Hey, makes it better when I win, making people think they lost to an almost stock car). Let me tell you, this Camaro had a cowl hood painted black (the rest of the car was white) with a big, black large stripe running down both sides of the car to match his hood, I guess. He also had the RS body-cladding, minus the wing, and stock rims.

Anywho, the twat-twizzler decides it's time to show me the "power" of his Camaro. He steps on it, and passes me on my left just as traffic cleared just to the left of us, with him revving his motor, which was surprisingly quiet (read on). Since there were still cars in front of me, I decided to change lanes too, so I was just behind him. This is when I see his single, stock exhaust tip sticking down from the left side of his car (V6 ). it looked like what, about an inch and three-quarter piping? Not sure, but it looked tiny and out-of-place considering all the "mods" he'd done to the outside of his car. So, I figured a ricer is ricer, no matter what nationality and car they drive...and they usually think alike. So I figured whatever "mods" this fool had probably done to his car probably just slowed it down, so I followed him...even passing my turn just to see what was up. Also, I have beaten a V6 Firebird on the freeway before...by a lot...so I knew I had a chance against the Camaro.

Well, as luck would have it, there was a clearing coming up on the lane just to the left of us with no traffic beyond that. Well, the Cama-rice did what I expected him to do, he gunned it for that opening, and took off. I followed suit naturally, and was quite surprised to find my car almost ramming the back of his car. I'm sure he was surprised too. As a disclaimer, about two lights went by before we got the clearing, and everytime I took off behind him, I gave a nice rev just to let him know my intentions. Meaning, he WAS actually trying to accelerate away from me. I did say the road was clear...I lied. There happened to be a big Suburban in the middle lane (three-lane road by this time). Cama-rice decided to go left of the Suburban, while my way was clear to the right of the 'Urban. By the time we both passed the SUV, I was about a car length in front of him. By the time I got to 80, I was about three cars ahead of him. There was traffic coming up, so I slowed down to about 60...where he did a fly-by.

Anyway, I was done racing at that point, but I still passed him...again, by staying in one lane. I wanted to see who this moron was. Well, I was in the middle lane of a stoplight, with him in the lane left of mine, about 2 cars back. I looked directly at him through my drivers-side rear-view mirror. He saw me too. He looked like he was constipated, staring straight at me through my mirror. He looked even more constipated when I started laughing:hehe:. I let him go, and I made my way home.

To answer most of the questions that'll crop up later, I am a VERY good driver. I've been street-racing for 14 years with no accidents, or mishaps...I pick my fights. Never even been pulled-over for racing even [knocks on wood]. I am 28-years-old, learned to drive in a '73 Bug when I was seven (blocks on pedals), started getting into street-racing when I was 14...with older friends letting me drive their cars in races.

My car is a 1997 Civic LX four-door. It has the d16y SOHC non-VTEC engine, but is NOT the same motor that came in the car stock...well, it was, but the one in it now didn't come from my car. I blew the original motor and had this one put in. I had little funds when this happened, so I couldn't do a VTEC swap like I had hoped for. The motor itself is modified as follows:

--DC 4-2-1 Headers
--Custom (built it myself) cold air intake system with a Ractive heatshield filter at the end. Air is drawn in about 5 inches from the ground, just in front of the passenger-side front-wheelwell. Filter is pointed forward and down, to produce a ram-air effect (and also to prevent the whole filter element from dipping into very shallow puddles whenever driving over it us unavoidable)
--2.5-inch piping from the header back...no cat, with resonator off a Camaro (I believe).
--Apex'i N1 turbo muffler
--Ractive 9.3mm plug wires with triple-magnetic core
--MSD distributor cap
--MSD blaster coil
--Total Seal piston rings
--DC shortshifter
--lightened flywheel
--Bosch Platinum +4's

Also, I consider my rims somewhat of a mod, since the 16-inch combo I'm using is not only lightweight, but has an overall smaller diameter than my stock rims, effectively lowering my final, FINAL gear (get it?...the tires, you moron ).

Anywho, I think I'm gonna have to break-down and finally put a sticker on my car that says "SOHC NO-VTEC", since everytime I win, people assume I have a b16. By the way, I have beat an i/e 2000 Si on the freeway.

Long enough for ya?

Edit: My car has been weighed before at approximately 2340LBS...apparently 4 door Hondas are lighter than 2-doors...something to with lesser braces due to the C-pillar providing help. What do I know?

I'm proud of you, sounds like that tard needed to be put in his place. And you are correct, rice comes in all makes, models, and colors. This one just happened to be in a Camaro format, but that makes him no less of a ricer. Maybe now he'll be a little more humble, and realize his V6 won't always beat a 4 cylinder car (I've been there with my old Camaro, just a fact of life).

Ya, sure you beat him.

Nice job! it shows rice comes in many brands. Most races just come down to driver skill.

I don't see how you could get 3 cars already at 80mph, assuming you were starting from a 40mph+ rollon. Unless he was out of gear, or something was wrong, even a V6 would have been able to hold you much closer then 3 cars in 40mph.

Although, what do I know, after all, intake exhaust manifolds... thats like... 300hp or something.

No doubt you could beat him, but I'm just a little shaky on the distances.

Thanks for all the compliments guys. While I'm here, I'll go ahead and post some recent wins since this post covers pretty much my reluctance to post them...

Freeway:
=stock V6 Firebird
=1995-98 Neon...looked modified
=Dodge Ram (hey, he started it...and he at least had an exhaust)
=Cavalier with big wing and DTM tips
=CRX with exhaust at least
=About 3 different S-10 Xtremes...sorry DeVil
=fixed-up, lowered Frontier
=2001 Altima 2.5S
=Various Chevy full-size trucks (yes, I know there are probably ones out there that can beat me...but haven't met on yet...and top-end is not a trucks' best race)
=1996-98 Toyota Corolla with at least an exhaust
=PT Cruiser
=Various V6 Mustangs
=previous gen Tiburon
=Sentra SE-R Spec V (hey I didn't believe it myself...he instigated it, I chased him and passed him up...I thought he might've let off, so I flashed my hazards just to see what'd he'd do...I stayed at 65MPH for about 3 miles till my exit and the young kid driving absolutely wouldn't pass me)
=2000 Civic Si with i/e (had exhaust, heard intake whine as I passed him
=Honda Accord
=and other ones I probably forgot.

From a stop:
=1990-91 Corolla
=stock Dodge Stratus V6
=Celica GT with at least exhaust
=80's 305 Camaro
=Honda Accord
=Honda Prelude non-VTEC with i/h/e (he told me...he was cool about it)
=Honda Prelude S with at least exhaust
=stock Honda Prelude non-VTEC
=and more I've forgotten

LOSSES:
I don't have much time, although I don't have TOO many...Like I said, I pick my fights...

Dunno, might've been closer at the time. I WAS a little bit too busy to sit there and measure...all I know is he was in my rear-view mirror and dropping back little-by-little...maybe he didn't get full acceleration until he "flew" by me?

But then again...

Mid 90's V6 stangs he should have no problem. When I drove my 95 V6 Camaro, I raced a 2000 V6 mustang and lost by a car at 100. His was an automatic and my Camaro was an M5. Might give him a little better run than a mid 90's Camaro, but with his skill and experience, my guess is he can beat them pretty easily...
