Best new car?

I was wondering what you guys thought about all the new concepts that are supposedly going to make it to production?(GTO, Solstice, Charger, Razor, mustang etc.) Do you think the razor and the solstice are even gonna make it to production? If so will the engines be detuned versions of themselves? Will the mustang remain a reasonably cheap sports car? Will the GTO and Charger live up to their namesakes? Any oppinions on these cars in general?

I love the look of the fastback, retro done right imo, but im afraid the prices are gonna escalate....

The GTO sounds like its going to be just plain awesome, it makes up for our dear lost firebird. I don't know if i like the looks though, I loved what pontiac was doing with the final generation of firebird, and IMO the GTO just doesn't match up. As for the GTO/Charger living up to their namesakes, i dunno theres no replacement for the originals, but I think they'll both be great cars in their own respects.

I like the whole "skateboard" design for the razor, personally i wouldn't want one, but I think theyre original enough of a design to make it into production, it would be a nice new category of car for pontiac and dodge.

Oh, do you have any pics of the mercury messenger?

GTO is on it's way... The Mustang concept is a thin veiling of the next generation Mustang, the Razor is slated for production, and Lutz is personally pushing the Solstice, but we have to wait for the word from the bean counters...

.

I don't know about the Razor I guess its being produced but the Charger most likely isn't which is a shame. I think that Charger concept just fits what a 21st century Charger should look like minus the 4 doors. The GTO is definately going in, should be cool to see but there are minor things that I don't like, that hopefully will be fixed in later models. Straight back dual exhaust, hood scoop.

Solstice is most likely going to be produced but I'm guessing its going to have some major changes to design. It looks good now but I can imagine what they are going to fix.

I like the Razor, I'd give serious thought to buying one if I had the disposable cash...

I have the word on the Solstice, guys. According to Automobile magazine, we're looking at 2006, limited run. It'll be sharing a platform with a revised Buick Bengal and Saturn Sky.

No word on if the Solstice coupe will make it.

Well I've been looking around and I got a bit more on the charger. A guy who says he works for the company says that although the charger project is publically cancelled we should expect it in showrooms by 2005 or 2006. The R/T version is supposed to come with a 5.7 hemi. I'm hoping these cars make it to production because by the time these cars come out I will have been an Automotive apprentice for 2 years so I should be able to afford one of these as my first new car (and probably first manual). How do you guys think the LS1 in the GTO compares to the new hemi?

Not really, it's just a sports car, not like Mazda invented the genre. It's twice as powerful as a Miata, and only weighs about 300lbs more.

Yeup, but it's probably going to be around 19K. The engine is the same 2.4 liter power plant in the new SRT-4 Neon, and PT Turbo. Expect the aftermarket to explode I will call it... the Turbo 4

The Charger is going to be the V8 RWD non luxury coupe based off of the new Daimler Chrysler RWD platform, which was largely designed by MB engineers. The Hemi however, is entirely a Chrysler effort. Expect it to do about as well as the LS1.

I have heard of Ford getting into variable valve timing with teh 4.6 DOHC...

Damn straight on the Chrysler 2.4L Turbo. It's a stout little lump with plenty left in it. I've already seen swap kits showing up to backdate the engine into the 1st gen Neons. While I'll always love the revvy 2.0L DOHC ACR four in the '96 Neon Sport Coupe. (Dad owns one with the engine well warmed over: 220bhp, 214lb-ft of torque at the wheels) All that torque stock in the 2.4L is a good thing.

Hmm, I'm tempted to dig up a GLH Omni with a blown engine and go to town. Now that's a hot hatch.

Razor: Same as the PT Turbo and the SRT-4 minus a lot of weight. Will it be produced? Who knows, Chrysler has made no announcements.

GTO: I thought this was a definite for Chevy, and I like it.

Mustang: Why wouldn't it be produced? I liked the drawings better than the prototype.

Charger: The intrepid will be dropped and replaced by the Charger and Charger R/T. I have seen concept drawings of the new design and I love it. They had BETTER produce it.

As for the Hemi and the LS1. The truck version of the Hemi is barely less powerful than the LS1 and it is a cast iron block with a 9.0:1 compression ratio. You can bet the all aluminum car version will be beefed up. and plenty more powerful than the LS1, also there are rumors of a new 383 Hemi. The Mustang and GTO better watch their back.

As for your Turbo 4 idea Cbass, you can't call it that. Chrysler already made the Turbo 4. It was a 2.2L with a Garrett VNT turbo. My new GTC has a Turbo 4.

My vote for best new car is either the Charger or the Neon SRT-4, perhaps the SRT-10 Ram.

My friends got a turbo Omni, its such a sleeper, it has wood grain panels down the sides, ugly rims, looks like an old ladys car. But, I love to watch peoples jaws drop when they get their doors blown off by this little crapy looking car. GOT BOOST?:silly2:
