Will a paint job come out nicer and smoother if it's painted on a very hot day? Will the paint come out as smoth if I paint it at night?

Ideally, paint would best be sprayed at 70 degrees on a day when humidity is below 50% (which is what all the cans say anyway)

But a paint job is much more dependant on your technique and form, than the temperature of the day.

Beware of high-humidity days however, it can cause some spray paints to cloud over.

I believe that having it a hotter day, and less humid (day) not night, would be the best for cople reasons

1. hot day = u dont have to warm the can up as much, therefor, the paint is Overall hotter, other then when u put it in water, some spots might be hotter than others...
2. Less humid= less factors that can mess up ur paint job, plus water might, if its humid enough, react with the paint, causing little drips (correct me if im wrong)

That's why you shake the can after heating it up in water. Paint under whatever conditions you have, but I recommend painting in a garage or something (be sure to use a respirator). Less dust flies around, and if you have flourescent lighting in your garage you can have better inspections of your paint jobs while you're going along.

Heat up the paint

I have found that the hotter the day the smoother the paint seems to be. I figure bodyshops bake the paint on real cars so why won't a hot hot day do the same for a model?? sometimes I even heat up the can under hot water to make it even smoother. My best paint jobs are done on a nice HOT summer day!! here in Charlotte though it is to damn cold to paint right now and it is driving me CRAZY!!! I need to move somewhere tropical!!!

I live in Buffalo Grove, a northwest suburb of chicago. It gets extremely cold here, and in the summer extremely humid. I have an extra room that i use as my "hobby room" i set the temperature at 82 degrees during the winter and leave the A/C off in the summer, so i dont have to worry about the temperature. I have a lot of things i have to worry about and i dont want my models comming out bad just because it wasn't a good day to paint.

RE:

I wish I were so lucky, I can only paint inside, besides the fumes of the paint has given me health problems before (I used to paint indoors about 10 years ago but not with enough ventilation). Maybe when I get a house instead of an apt. I can have a spray room. ahhhh....that will be sweet.

I get a high of about 40 where I live , so should I wait till it gets a little warmer before I do any painting? Or would it be fine to keep the can in the house, quickly go outside and spray it, put it in a box of some sort and put it in the house to dry?

If you were in a garage you could put up a small halogen lamp next to the car body once you've painted. Halogen bulbs create heat so this could be a good idea, right?? Correct me if I'm stupid.

Would that just bake the top layer of paint? kinda like what happens if you spray clear to quick and it causes the gasses of the paint to be trapped and hence crack
