highflow=worst mileage??

It's only common sense that if your engine recieves more air intake, it would compensate by adding more fuel to burn...... right???

So what I'm asking is that if you get a K&N drop in filter for your car, would you lose mielage??? I'm asking this because I think I see adds that claim that you'll get better miles to the gallon by installing a free-er flow air intake system.

theory #1 - you should burn a bit more fuel but..

theory #2 - your motor is allowed to breath a bit more free'er and thus can produce more power.. which in again in theory you use less gas to get moving.

I believe in the latter theory... cause it helps me justify buying crap for my car

most airboxes on cars are just horrible, often bottlenecks are created there depriving your car of air that it needs to operate perfectly. Many times this is done on purpose to lower the pollution of a car, and give better gas mileage, as your car would be running lean.

I don't think they affect your mileage either way. The engine will still use the same ratio of fuel to air, and still take the same amount of power to do the work.

No noticeable affect either way in my opinion. If you do notice something, it's probably just in your mind

with all my mods, i definitly noticed a increase in mileage of my car. of course all the mods that i bought was soley to increase breathing capabilities so its basically cheap mileage and cheap power. hehe and for proof. hmmmm before mods, i get 220-240ish before next fill up. after mods i get around 280+ miles before fill up

I think it is just a selling point. It does make your car a bit more efficiant. But you know?!

it makes your engine more efficient, so your engine doesn't work as hard, and you can see a little increase. of course just a filter isnt gonna change enough to make a noticable difference though. with full intake and full header back exhaust and no cats, i get like 30-40 more miles per tank of gas than bafore. thats even without the o2 sensors.

its nothing special about the k&n filter though, its just a piece of foam, any similar filter will do the same. its hard to mess up a sponge ya know i have a k&n on my weapon r intake, but only because they're reusable and have that million mile warranty.

They're made of cotton/wire, not foam

I have heard they don't filter well at all once they're dirty, and that they are more restrictive than a dirty foam or paper filter :o
