broken door handles on grand marquis

I keep breaking the door handles on my marquis. I have had someone fix them for me or have had them done when I take it in for other work. Can someone tell me how to fix them so I can do it myself and spare the expense? (When I lift up on the handle, it feels really stiff like it's binding. When I lift a little harder, it breaks and the handle will lift but the door won't open. Am tired of getting in from the passenger side! Thanks in advance.

Don't ever buy a DSM like mine, their notorious for the door handles just falling off for no apparent reason ....

Brian, you might get more responses to this if you post it in the Mercury or Ford Forums. There's bound to be one for your car. Hope you find out what's wrong.
