I definately think that thread has to end..........All that needs to be done is a trip to a track, and posting your 1/4 mile slips. At that point it should be an end of discussion.

I dont want to turn this thread into that one, but I think a V6 3.5 Maxima vs a V6 Altima both with Manual transmissions are equal.

Before I was biased and thought the Maxima would work the Altima due to the fact it had short gearing with the 6 speed, but it seems these cars both run low low 14's stock.

As for the thread ending, daveauth21: I hope you have your answer, your car will beat a V6 Altima no problem when you get that new motor in. But if you dont have NOS or FI, you are gonna need a bunch of mods.

As to a 2.5 Altima VS a 3.0 Maxima Auto, well I think there is enough evidence posted in that thread to show I can and have and will do it again once someone is up for the challenge.

That, and also... it seems the 6spd has a greater drivetrain loss than the 5spd.. atleast that's what those 6spd owners were saying a while back on the Sentra board.

But the Max and Alti will run neck to neck with drivers being equal. Nissan has overrated the Maxima's 255hp and underrated the Altima's 240 and now 245hp for the 03. They are both the same engine, with same ypipes since the new Stillen headers will work on both... The Altima has a free flowing exhaust (I know its not a real dual exhaust, but at least it doesn't have any nasty turns like the Honduh Accord V6). And the Maxima's got that funky crushed section on the B-pipe. Now that I think about it, I think the Altima's exhaust is much better than the Maxima's because of that B-pipe .

And oh... intake, the Altima aftermarket intakes are much better because they are all basically CAIs... Both the AEM and Injen runs their pipe all the way to the front left fender... Its just the way the Altima was designed... The Maxima on the other hand, you want an CAI? You're going to have to drill a hole for the PRCAI. Injen for the Max is not an CAI... it's a suck in warm air right off the radiator intake (SIWAROTRI).

Inconclusion.... I'm not saying anything.. hehe Draw your own!

maxima's have a variable capacity muffler, which i don't believe the altima has. it sounds like bs, but it really helps to maximize power

I gained power when I ditched the variable muffler.. 2.5" Cattman Catback Exhaust baby!!!!!

Just to give you an idea how free flowing and unobstructive the Altima exhaust is.. click here

On our Maximas, the exhaust has to wrap around our beam suspension

I'm not going to lie, if it weren't for the Altima's nasty interior. I would have jumped ship already :o I mean.. comeon... rear suspension based on the Skyline!?!?!? compared to a beam... *sigh*

yeah, it is utterly unexcuseable that the Max was SWITCHED to a bea, rear axle, it kills me, what the hell were Nissan engineers thinking. anyways, i was under the impression that the muffler really helps to maximize power, i mean the whole concept makes a lot of sense...

Does, but a little valve cannot create enough back pressure, its equal probably to like .05lbs of torque and thats only good while its open and after that it needs pressure to stay open which causes pressure while at WOT and prevents free flow....IMO.

Yeah, you would htink if the Maxima was their Luxury Sedan, IRS would really help smooth out the quality. I mean my Max handled great, but then again I came from driving an 86 300zx that couldnt turn for hte life of it.

Why would Nissan make two different car models with the same engine. They shouldn't over lap the Maxima and Altima like that. They should really add some power changes to the Maxima.

Well Nissan has been doing that forever.

Right now the VQ35 is in
Infiniti G35, G35 Coupe, FX35
Nissan Maxima, Altima, 350z, Murano and soon to be Quest I believe.

VQ30 was only used in the Maxima.

VG30 was used in the 300zx and the Quest.

and I35, of course...nissan figures that people who would have bought the Maxima GXE would rather opt for a fully loaded Altima v6 instead. makes sense to me, too, why buy a stripped max when can you get a decked out Altima for around the same amount of money. plus, one engine divided into many applications equals huge payoffs when budget time arrives. not to mention that nissan knows that have one of the best v6's on the market, why not give the people what they want
