ok now i know i am a noob but wtf is a mini-me setup??

I belive it is a SOHC VTEC in an 88-91 CIVIC.

Its a set up that goes like this...
a non v-tec block with a sohc v-tec head. Basically its like an ls v-tec . Its a pointless set up. I would just go full sohc v-tec swap. |

an actual mini-me consists of a d16z6/d16y8 head on a d16a6 block. In all actuality, the d15 block with a vtec head has a lot of potential, due to the fact that d15b2 has flat top pistons, so a vtec head on that block has higher compression than the stock d15 plus the addition of vtec.
If you're looking to go cheap, then a mini-me is a good setup since you get can a sohc vtec head for about 100 dollars, versus a couple hundred for the whole engine. If you have the funds to spend, then yes, getting the entire engine is a good idea. |

unless you want to swap over to OBD1, and then you'll need an extra $150 for the harness and an extra $100 for the ECU. |

just to clear up some things, in my experience, i've found that if you are going to keep your stock non-OBD ecu, then it is wise to keep your Si intake manifold and sensors rather than using the d16z6 intake manifold. with the z6 mani, you'll have to reroute some vacuum lines and other small miscellaneous things. IMO, if starting off with a d16a6, it is easiest/most cost effective to just swap the head. btw, intake manifold/exhaust manifold gaskets are very often reusable.

Hey, we just did one at work on sat. in a 94 hb with a d15b7 block we put a 97 SOHC vec head. Car ran, didn't hook up vtec though. No problems as of yet.
