Angry 330CI subwoofer problems

Has anyone else had problems with their Harmon Kardon subwoofer? It makes an annoying rattling sound that makes the stereo sound really cheap. The dealer tried to fix it but couldn't. They refused to replace the subwoofer because they claim that it is a problem that BMW knows about but has not found a fix. If this is true, BMW needs to get its act together and stop putting out faulty products. Please help!

Where is the rattling sound coming from? Is it possibly one of the speaker grills? That stinks that the dealership won't replace the sub. I'd consider getting a second opinion from either another BMW dealer or BMW (don't know their contact info) themselves about this "unsolvable problem" that you were informed about. That way if you find out that your dealer is full of crap you can come back to him and make them replace the sub.

I've never heard of a dealer knowing of a problem and then refusing to fix it. If that is the case, maybe you might want to consider notifying Consumer Affairs of your problem and see what action you can take in this. It definitely doesn't sound right to me.

I took it to another dealer who was able to take care of the problem. They talked to BMW who suggested installing vents for the subwoofer. That seems to have solved the problem( though I'm not sure why venting a subwoofer would stop the rattling). If you live in Orange County, California, don't take your car to Irvine BMW(they couldn't and wouldn't fix the problem) and go to Crevier BMW instead.

Oh yeah, BMW was very unhelpful with my problem. I e-mailed them and called their customer service center but no one ever got back to me about the problem. The people who work in customer service only record your complaints but do not offer you any direct correspondence with BMW. I also never received an e-mail reply back. So far, a very disappointing ownership experience...

Without vents, the airflow inside the box is restricted and will make it rattle and sound crappy.
