GM Dex-Cool Intake Manifold Gasket Lawsuit Tentative Class Settlement.

It's odd that this tentative settlement doesn't include the L67. However, it does mention the L36 & others....Click, or copy and paste the link below.

Re: GM Dex-Cool Intake Manifold Gasket Lawsuit Tentative Class Settlement.

Thx for the info! My wife's a delivery driver and her 00 GP SE 3.1L V6 had the lower intake manifold issue. She needed the car for her job, so I ended up footing a lot of money to get it fixed in a day. Hopefully, I may be elgible for some type of compensation.

Re: GM Dex-Cool Intake Manifold Gasket Lawsuit Tentative Class Settlement.

What I find odd is that the alleged tentative settlement doesn't include all GM cars that use Dex-cool. Doesn't make sense to me.

It wasn't just the L36 SII 3800, 3.1, 3.4 and 4.3 equipped GM cars/trucks.

Re: GM Dex-Cool Intake Manifold Gasket Lawsuit Tentative Class Settlement.

I don't know the specifics, but is it possible that the gasket was made of a different material that was degradable by DEX cool in those certain engine models? That's the only reason I would think they would do that.

Re: GM Dex-Cool Intake Manifold Gasket Lawsuit Tentative Class Settlement.

I cautiously await to see what type of settlement is reached. I'm not a big fan of class action suits, having been party to many through the years. Most of the money that is awarded the plaintiffs is gobbled up in lawyer's fees and the rest is spread amongst all who are party to the lawsuit. The more people involved equals a smaller award per person. It may not be enough to cover the out of pocket expenses incurred by most, but I guess we'll see when it's over.

Re: GM Dex-Cool Intake Manifold Gasket Lawsuit Tentative Class Settlement.

maybe GM is using "DEX-COOL" as a scapegoat for poor gasket material and and poor torgue procedures.

I know that when my lower intake blew on my lumina with the 3100, upon disassembly, I checked for a split in the rubber around the coolant passwageways. nothing was found. I believe the leak was caused by a bad torque and coolant was just allowed to seep out between the gasket and the heads/LIM.

Re: GM Dex-Cool Intake Manifold Gasket Lawsuit Tentative Class Settlement.

I agree with Bob, since all GM cars have used Dex-cool since 96. If the coolant was the issue, all vehicles would be included. Also, the GM 96-03 5.0 and 5.7 V-8's were subject to intake gasket failure as well as the engines in Bob's list. IMO, none were caused by Dex-cool, it's the shoddy gaskets GM used (and no longer uses). The most common failure is due to a lateral shift of the manifold that cracks the plastic frame of the OEM gasket. I agree with tblake that since Dex-cool is a GM only coolant, the lawyers are going after it as the cause because GM has more money than it's gasket supplier does. Finally, all of these engines have an improved design metal framed gasket available. If it were Dex-Cool, they'd all have a service bulletin suggesting changing the dex-cool out for some other form of coolant/antifreeze when doing the gasket job.

Re: GM Dex-Cool Intake Manifold Gasket Lawsuit Tentative Class Settlement.

I've never had a problem with Dex-Cool in my 97 GT. I had to swap out my UIM gasket however I really don't believe Dex-Cool was the culprit. I certainly DO NOT wait five years or 150,000 miles to flush the coolant system. IMOP every three years or less is good, safe "and cheap" maintenance.

Re: GM Dex-Cool Intake Manifold Gasket Lawsuit Tentative Class Settlement.

TbLake, we experienced the same as you with my UIM, we had a bad torque, allowing seepage,in fact we could loosen three screws by hand. Upon further investigating we changed out the gasket, had to anyways.
