Exclamation newbie question

Hi guys, I am new pretty much to modeling so I have only been doing for a couple months now. My question is how do I fabricat ground effects getting it to come out with clean lines and crisp edges. I am trying to give myself inspiration to finish a amt model given to me by a friend of a 63 impalla. I think it would look sweet with ground effects. So far I have only modiefied the hood to have a scoop on it from an old superman funny car I had. I will post some pictures as soon as I get all my ideas completed physically.

various shapes of metal file and sand paper will do the job. Or, you can wrap a strip of sand paper around a curved object, such as a pen, film case, or even a spray can, depending on the size.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to try it tonight when I get home. One more question what type of putty is best cause I notice the testors putty is too flimsy.

Smile Patience, grasshopper.

Why do all the newbies want to try these kinds of mods in their first year of modeling? You newb's need to give yourself time to develope some skills, just build out of the box for a while and develope some good clean build techniques, you'll be much happier with your models later. I've seen too many newb's on AF trying stuff they aren't ready for, I just shake my head and ask why?

You know that is a good point and well taken, with a grain of salt I might add. We newbies are like little kids ya know....we just can't wait to grow up. I will take your advice cause maybe I am going to far to soon. First time I have ever heard myself admit that, but then again...no women are envolved here.

Easy, easy.
Young people are much more motivated than us, old people.
[j/k]Young modelers are inspired by those skilled modelers, and we should blame them for being too good.[/j/k]

We know that their first few attempts will suck, and some might just give up modeling. But, at least we can encourage them to continue trying, and eventually, they will develop their skills.

The best material for body mod is probably two part epoxy putty. You can use your fingers to form a basic shape, and use files and sand paper to make the desired shape. Also, use templates, that you cut from a sheet of plastic , so that you can get a perfect symmetry.
Draw back of epoxy putty is its slow curing time.

Another material is polyester putty, and this is inexpensive and cures and ready to sand in less than 1 hour. But it's a paste, and harder to get the basic shape, so more carving, filing and sanding is required.

I agree with you, we all aspire to be FlyOTW, and enthusiasm has to be present to get there. I'm just throwing out some food for thought.

Thank you very much for filling me in on the putty side of things. I listen to the elderly when they speak cause they always give good history lessons..... , forereal though I ginuinely appreciate your critique of me going to fast cause I have done some pretty horrible looking ones. As do this one I will post pics, but keeping the newbie code unbroken I must ask how to do so cause I tried with my profile photo to which still doesn't show up. You guys are pretty cool here and you don't mind sharing the knowledge.....ALRIGHT
