unreliable trannys?

hey guys this is my first post and i had a question. currently i drive a 99 maxima GLE basically every option and an automatic transmission. on of my firends had to have his moms transmission replaced because it went out. i have also heard form many people that this car has a very weak transmission. i am currently having a problem with the tranny not engaging when the gas is pressed. i am 16 and a pricey tranny rebuild does not sound good to me. have any of yall had this problem before? if you could give me some replies it would be helpful. thanks

You shouldn't be having those problems at 50,000 miles. Sorry, but that doesn't sound good. Have it checked out.

tranny

these trannys have problems cooling down and thats why they r problematic the best thing you can do is put a tranny cooler in and change your fluid when it is due.

Nissan makes crappy auto trannies (I assume your talking about autos) in any gen of the Max. I don't believe that they've found a regular tranny that can handle all the tq the VQ puts out.

This why I believe they added the CVT to the Murano instead of the crappy autotragic. Anyway don't be discouraged.

i have 53000 miles on mine and its been fine. i have heard of maxima trans going at 30k though. one thing i considered if it ever went was to convert it to a 5 speed. big job but if youre going to spend so much on a new tranny probably no better then the last you might as well.

Nissan builds good transmissions. Don't drag race or abuse it and it should last well over 100,000 miles. If you abuse it, of course it's gong to fail quicker. Anything will.

The best thing you can do for it is change the fluid over to synthetic. Make sure you hae it serviced regularly. (fluid changes) and you'll be just fine.

If you wanna talk about crappy trannys, take a look at the TL Forums. LOL

There are many Nissan's with crappy trannies as well, take a look on the org, they even have a thread asking who's tranny went out in a certain month.
I'm certain not everyone's tranny is crappy, it's just that most complaints made about Nissan's drivetrains of late has been about the tranny.
I'm not trying to go to war with you or anyone on this but we can't be so biased as to close our eyes on common problems that exist on our cars just because they are Maximas or Nissans.
Pointing fingers at others to try to pull fault away from us make us look like we are insecure and trying to cover some of the same pitfalls we have in some cars as well.
I'm certain not all TL's have tranny problems either.

My max is 97 GXE. When I bought the car it had only 32k miles on it, and after 2 months of NORMAL driving tranny went bad on me. Wasnt switching gears at normal time. I bet the person who had it before me, was abusing my baby as much as possible. I had new tranny put in after that ( it was under manufacturer 60k miles waranty) So far so good *knock on wood*

My tranny is doing pretty well, I got my car from a mechanic and he had put like 90,000 miles on it. So far the tranny works like a charm. I agree with dirty dog though, if the tranny fails mine as well replace it with a 5 speed(although that is expensive). I personally think of the long haul, because if the auto tranny messes up after a certain amount of miles then it will keep on doing it, so far I have not heard one complaint from the people who own the 5 speeds. So although it costs more now, it will cost a lot less in the future.
But that's just my opinion.

95,000 miles on the old max and she's still kickin ass. At What amount of milage will I start to see a decrease in performance? BTW my tranny is perfect although I make sure she shifts right during acceleration.
