it seems weird. the M3 GTR had an inline 6 in it that made 420 hp(if i'm not wrong). now it has a 4 liter V8 that only has 400 hp but is more powerful and faster than the porsches. doesnt make sense to me. but then again i could be an idiot

did you know

did you know that when motor trend recently did a performance comparo between the M3, Z06 and the Boxter S that the M3 won. i have mixed feelings about this because the Z06 won in every category but tied in the 1/4 mile with the M3. My friends dad has a 98 M3 and is on the waiting list for the 2001 M3, i can't wait.

Let's just say the engine has "over 400 hp" (BMW quote). They may be tight-lipped about how much over 400 since Porsche is not happy about the entry of the BMW GTR and Porsche has complained to the rules committee.

Lightbulb M3 Light Version

What you right about the M3 GTR sounds very interesting, but what Iīm really looking forward to, is a M3 Light Version with about 380 hp and a lighter chassis. Thatīs a real sportscar for public roads, The M3 GTR is just for race tracks.

Sounds like the E36 M3 Lightweight!

For the original M3 Lightweight, the factory started with an M3 and then removed just about everything that is not needed for competition. Take away the air conditioning, the audio system, the power seats, the sunroof, the took kit, the noise reduction mats, and lots of insulation. You get a heater, lightweight aluminum doors, and special carpeting to provide further weight reduction. In fact, aside from the dashboard, the only feature retained from a standard model was the power windows, necessary for BMW's unique door glass sealing system.

Thatīs what I wanted to say. But I read about a stronger engine, too.
It was supposed to have about 380 hp at 3.2 litres
