Perfect rims and tires for several projects - must read
Part 1.
Alright, made this discovery last night. I had been looking for some rims and tires to use on the Revell Wheels of Fire snap-fit '57 Chevy. Problem was, everything was too wide or just looked too small. I've had this happen several times, especially with snap-fit kits, as the wheel wells tend to be too narrow.
So, I'm up in the attic looking around and stumble upon the Revell Wheels of Fire snap-fit custom Expedition. Tried out the wheels and they are perfect. They are tall enough, narrow enough and still lend the custom look to the '57.
I also tried them on a PT Crusier and they look pretty good as well. The tires are a little tall in that instance, but narrow enough to tuck.
I'm thinking these things would work great on a number of kits.
Part 2.
We've all seen those Jada/Dub City diecasts in 1/24 scale with the huge rims and tires. In real world, they are probably a 24" scale. Very limited use in modeling (Unless to replace the rims from the Expedition you canibalized above).
However, they are perfect for the Lindberg 1/20 scale kits. I pulled out the Lindberg 1/20 Chevy Z10 (early name for the S-10 Extreme) and compared the stock rims to the Jada rims. They are the exact same width and height. The tread pattern on the stock ones is a bit better, but the overall look of the vehicle with the Jada rims was undeniable. I also compared the rims and tires to several 1/18 scale diecasts, and while slightly smaller (1/8 inch in some cases), they would work extremely well.
Jada now offers there rims as upgrade packs. I haven't found a local dealer but found three sets through an online auction. I may have to pick up a few more.
