Clutch woes...
Problems, problems. My clutch is engaging right at the floor, and the pedal doesn't travel all the way back up! I can barely get the car into gear once things warm up (90+ degrees during the daytime)
The car is a stock '91 G20. I had the clutch cable changed and adjusted about three months ago; the clutch was replaced 20-30K miles ago. The mechanic that changed the cable mentioned that "it can't be adjusted any further" - leading me to wonder if the adjusting nut may have slipped. I can't believe that the cable could stretch that much in three months! How do I get to the clutch cable adjuster bracket? |

Ok the clutch adjuster is under the intake tubing and the plastic container beneath it so you may want to take it off if you wish but it aint necessary. The cable must not be tight, it should be a little bit slack enough so that it does not come off. From memory the cable has a 10mm nut so loosen that and turn the knob on the adjuster. If it aint the clutch cable I'd be thinking the the people that fitted the clutch should have a look.
Again the cable MUST NOT BE TIGHT! Hope that helps a bit.

fixed!
Found the bracket, and it was just a loose cable. Better now, although it looks like I'll be replacing the clucth soon, as there isn't a lot of modulation in it.
The mechanic that fitted the new clutch must not have adjusted it correctly - it shouldn't be this worn after 30K miles. Can't really do anything about it, though, as he is 8,000 miles away... From reading some of the messages here, it looks like an aftermarket clutch and PP might be the better way to go as compared with the OEM components - this car is my daily driver, and isn't raced or abused (much). |
