Exclamation Important Recall.....

Just incase none of you Sunfire,Trans Sport, and Grand Prix owners year 1996, 1997, 1998 know.... a recall has been anouced about the condition where the lower pinion bearing in the power steering gear may separate. Most of the reports indicate that the driver experienced an intermittent loss of power steering assist when making left turns, Mostly at lower speeds. If anyone needs more information I can get it. You all may have got this late last week or early this week.

Im having my Grand Prix checked out this week. They will be inspecting the pinion conditions.

- 1996 model Grand Prix does not apply to this.

Just a note on that. This recall is a major pain in the butt so give the dealers some slack when it comes to completing it. Last one I did took an hour and a half and we have about 15 a day come in.

So far I havent seen one that has failed doing the recall but I've done 2 awhile back that had. Basically the lower bearing fails, seizes or looses a few balls, and causes the rack to "freeze" in position. Here is a pic from the actuall recall that shows where its at.

bowtiebandit, I am assuming you are a technician, do you have SI2000 availible to you via your home internet connection?
Just curious, my dad is also a tech and for work purposes he accessed it through our computer with a web address sent to him from a guy at work.
