receiver noise

the noise is of the cd tracking, so when i hit next track, i hear the ticking noise while its reading(mp3). the sound is playing through the speakers, but i dont think its being caused by the receiver. i plugged the rca's from the receiver into a portable radio with rca inputs. i heard music but the noise wasnt there. i know this has been gone over a countless amount of times, but i still cant get it fixed, and with my new receiver coming i would like to.

i was sure to keep the 12v and rca's separate, but that didnt help. i heard somewhere i should keep the wires away from the ecu, and i did that. 12v is running down the driverside, rca's down the middle. i dont see how, but the only thing i can think of is a bad amp ground. but theyre both screwed down tightly to bare metal. the noise is there with the engine off, so im not sure if it can still the the alternator or battery.

what else can it be?

i got this from crutchfield, could this fix it?

"The next test is to reconnect the patchcords at the amp, and disconnect them at the receiver. If the noise quits, the ground wire of the receiver will need to be disconnected from the dash wiring, and re-connected directly to bare metal of the car, ideally at the amp ground point."

this is a common problem for display boards ......... try what the crutchfield guys recommended.

thanks i think i will when i get teh receiver. i called into their tech support and the guy told me if im hearing the cd tracking noise its basically a bad receiver, and the amps are just making the noise worse.

well, yeah ....... that's what an amp does - amplify. If there is unintentional noise coming in, it will amplify that too - ask anyone that has engine noise problems.
