Question i need some help and opinions on custom exhausts

im looking at two choices:

1. full cat-back

2. universal muffler and custom 2.25 piping

i read the FAQ but i still have some questions... im plannin on goin NA with just a few more engine upgrades after completing I/H/E... prally like a bigger fuel rail n pump...

1. how much hp difference am i goin to see between GReddy SP catback and a custom system?

2. what are some good mufflers to use in a custom 2.25 piping? im looking for a deep throaty sound... loud but not sooo loud u can hear me a mile away... no bumble-bee lawnmower sounding either...

3. if i do go the custom route... what questions should i ask the shop? what is a good price for parts n labor?

4. would i still pass emissions on a custom job? (NJ)

thanks!

SOHC 1.8L V-Tec right?

You may only need a 2'' pipe, w/ a good muffler, 2.25 may be a bit too big, see what the exhaust guys think. Im not too keen on brands, from what lil research I've done on mufflers, Greddy strikes me as good, as does Skunk2. dont know bout sound, but with a custom pipe job (my favorite) you could probably pop in the right kind of resonators to get the sound you want.

I would favor the full system over a cat back. flow flow flow

custom is definitely the way to go for a few reasons. brand name exhausts cost quite a bit more then a custom one built just as well. also with a custom one you can get it exactly the way you want it. angled, tips, whatever you want. and i would go with a 2" pipe too because you still need some backpressure to have some torque on the low end. and about a muffler look at what the shop has. but i must say that a company called Brullen make the best sounding cans ive ever heard. theyre not too expensive either so see if you can find them. otherwise dynomax are very good, inexpensive mufflers as well. good luck and let us know what you decide
