1971 Corvette 454?
I want to know what you guys think of these engines. Is 1800CDN (about 1200USD) a good price for a freshly rebuilt 454? Would these engines be a good base for a daily driver/ Racer? What is the difference between the 365 HP and the 425HP engines? What are they're torque ratings? What would the MPG be? Anything I should know about these things?

First, aprox. $1200 for a fresh rebuilt 454 is good... depends whats been done to it and where it came from. Difference between 365hp and 425hp is... 60hp. Torque Ratings vary from High 300s to low 500s depending on Heads and Cam configuration. Milege would suck ass, big bitches love the gasoline... they love alcohol and methanol even more. In your Monte Carlo you'd be sporting nearly 12mpg city AT BEST... Getting a transmission such as a 700R4 will help you due to its overdrive feature. Other things you should know... big blocks cost big money. Accesory brackets cost more than small block parts. My friend built a 454 (approx 700hp all motor) and for all the accessories and brackets it was near $500 alone. A deal for a big block like what you say you can get... is a good deal but be prepared to pay some green for it. If you want a daily driver motor with enough nuts to keep up with most people... build a motor of my own design. GM 350 Shortblock 2Bolt Main*: ~1300 Torquer Heads: ~ 800 Cam: ~ 140 Carb: ~ 280 Intake: ~ 150 Total: ~ $2700 Approx HP: 280-300 Approx TQ: 290-320 If interested Let me know and i'll get you the actual parts and prices... Neat thing also its a 50-state legal motor setup for us smog restricted people.. especially those in California. And it'd get decent milege as well. *Dont need a 4bolt main till you reach over 400hp or are turning 6000+ rpm. So might as well save yourself some money and get a 2bolt. ![]() OR Just buy a GM Vortech 350. Not only does it make 330hp/380Tq. Its 50-State legal! <Very Badass replacement motor! Can get good milege if you keep your foot off the gas, as with any V8 car. Cost about $2300 for a Long block and about $3500 for a Turn Key motor. The Cons of a Vortech motor is that its got a different bolt patter for the heads, thus requireing a special order intake manifold from various manufactures. You cant just slap on anyold intake... so be sure you specify you have Vortech heads on your motor when ordering a manifold. And they are center bolt heads, not perimeter bolts... not a big deal just have to get different valve covers. OK.... Enough from me =)

If I were you, I would go with an SB rather than a BB. Why not get a 383 or a 400? Parts are cheaper and mileage should be better...

Last Camaro had a 401(6.6L) Seen a 409 from a 350 too.
My recommendation... 1. 350 SB bored/built to 396 2. 230/236ish cam 3. cnc stage IIs 4. hp = 450+ tq = 450+ Passing emmissions would be possible with a tad of tuning.
