I've found that a clearcoat isn't always necessary; especially with Tamiya spraypaints.

You aren't obliged to do it, but my experience is that it will result in a better, shinier body. But choice is up to you, becaus especially when clear-coating over decals can be very tricky.

I don't always clearcoat them, sometimes though.
P-man seems to hate clearcoat, he just poilshes and waxes the paint.

I never use it as i dont think it looks real IMO.....spent a bit of time getting a good paint job, then by giving it a good rub with compound you should end up with a great finish

Take P-Mans advice. If you see his creations over here you know what I mean.
It's not such an easy question. It all depends on what tecnhique of painting suits you best. If you still live in the enamel-age, like I do , it's better to clear coat. I only have a couple of miserable experiences with spraycans, so I can't comment on that, but P-Man just did. Also it depends on the subject. For racing cars, I prefer to clearcoat my decals in. The clear will protect de decals over time and I don't like the decal edges to be visible. I know others might not think so, that in reality sponsoring stickers are just stickers and not glossy and all that stuff, but I prefer them to clearcoat. For race cars scale models it's all about "Does it look right?" and not so much about, "Is it right?" Just my experience. Good Luck

U should use Clear Coat for Metallic finishes such as silver, gold anf glittery colors. BUt if ur just using like white, blue (depends whut kind), or black u wont need to. If the paint has speckles of glitter u should clear coat it.
To the people who think i dont know about models i do, i used to build 1:43 models like for 2 years. So i know alot of stuff about modeling. (Sorry i had to post this just wanted to verify some info.)
